i agree. except for changing the facemask from grey to green in 1980, the helmet has been the same since 1961 when teams started puting logos on the helmets...
ain't broke, don't fix it...
anyone else remeber those kewl Green Bay facemasks from the early 80's (i.e. Lynn Dickey). I'm a viking fan (so by common law a packer hater), but even I liked those facemasks. they were one of a kind.

Man, I could've sworn that in the 70's, the crossbar part of the Packer "G" was a little thinner. Or maybe it's just my crappy replica helmet from that era...gray double-bar facemask, baby! Dickey's, on the other hand, made him look like frickin' Hannibal.
I remember back in 1993, when I was in South Carolina in the Army, my folks sent me Ron Wolf's plans for the Packer uniform. He was gonna change the gold to a New Orleans-style color, ditch the stripes entirely...and maybe even f*ck with the sacred "G" that Coach Lombardi had designed! Luckily, he didn't...although he did get the 2 sleeve stripes cut down to 1 when Nike took over Packer uniforms from Starter for the 1997 season. (Before Wolf, the Packers ordered them from a local shop. Once he hit town, it was straight from the manufacturer. Wolf had a way of pooping on Packer tradition if it might be better business. Aargh.) Hell, I still miss the Lombardi-era double stripes on the socks, as opposed to the plain green and white crap I grew up watching 'em wear.
And remember the throwbacks of 1994? The Packers wore their 1936 unis that year. I was hoping they'd go even further back, to the ones that said "ACME PACKERS" on the front instead of a jersey number.
This whole thread got me curious to see if I could find pictures of older Packer uniforms. I didn't, but I did find this. Enjoy!

This company manufactures plaques of team uniforms through the years (baseball and hockey as well as football).
Any chance that you have Wolf's plans in "writing"? I've been looking for these for a long time. As I recall, the change was to make the unis look more like Notre Dame (going to Navy and Gold, not Green and "Gold").

| #25 Posted on 2.4.03 1745.38 | Funny, I agree with Bidwell on keeping the Cardinals name. There is quite a bit of history in it dating back to the days when the team called the Windy City home. Other than that, Bidwell has proven to be a moron... but he still isn't the biggest moron in professional football. (The biggest moron in football? Mike Brown, of course. Poor Paul turns over in his grave every Sunday...)

Sorry, Sec19Row53, I don't have 'em in writing. But if I recall correctly, those evil plans were in some late summer/early fall 1993 issue of Packer Report. (Or maybe I just remember that for the sidebar headline about Brian Noble being out for the year with an injury.)
Weird thing is...I'm sitting about 8 feet from Noble's old desk right now at my TV station. Now that he's done with TV sports, he's doing his outdoors show. The boy might be onto something. :-)

| #28 Posted on 3.4.03 0747.59 | On you r list of uniform changes, you left off the rams, who changed to a darker blue, and a darker gold. The team logo changed too, but the helmet, other than the color, remained the same. I think that a lot of the uniform changes arent that great (like the seahawks becoming the Eagles west), but I do like the new Atlanta logo. It may have been a better idea to use it last year to go along with Vick's first season as a starter.
