They'd BETTER draft themselves a good QB, otherwise the Falcons are looking at Week 1 starter Chris Redman. He was selling insurance a year ago, you know. I know because Tony Kornheiser made sure to mention it a couple dozen times on MNF.
On a similar note, there should be NO excuse to have the Falcons on MNF this year. They're looking positively putrid so far.
As a Falcons fan, I've decided to stop fighting the mass exodus and accept it as A Good Thing. Sure, I may not recognize my team next year, but with the way we played last year - and honestly, the way we played any time Michael Vick wasn't on top of his game - that's probably for the best. I was a big Matt Ryan fan during his college tenure so I hope he can bring the goods in the NFL, but I don't know if I'm quite ready to put all the hopes of my franchise on him.
For anyone that has seen Shockley play in college, he was pretty darn good too. I don't know if he's big enough to be effective in the NFL, but maybe time will tell.
Gosh, I feel like I'm cheering for an expansion team now.
The Falcons have far bigger concerns than QB. Has anyone seen the offensive (in more ways then one) line? How about safety? I haven't seen good all-around safety play since the '98 season. The quicker Keith Brooking is out of the team, the better. Maybe you can say the same thing for Jamaal Anderson *shudders*?
I'm hoping the Falcons can trade down for more picks. I rather see good all-around play than to see a gamble for The One QB which fails because the rest of the offense is lousy (especially the OL). Redman vs. Shockley vs. (Rookie) may not light the NFL community afire but it's not like the Falcs are contending for a Super Bowl right now anyway.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you... With the NFC South Curse in full effect, this move should assure the Dirty Birds of the division title in 2008! ;)
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.
I wasn't meaning in terms of how he's perceived compared to Brady, but his actual talent level. Brady has never been the most gifted passer. Not close really. But he was smart and had the perfect system for what he could do.
