If you haven't heard the bad news, Hawk and Animal (a.k.a the Road Warriors, a.k.a the O.L.D) are being given dark matches at next week's WWE events. So that leads to this:

FACT or FICTION: The Road Warriors will return to WWE television.

As much as it hurts to say this, I'm saying FACT. Vince's nostalgia kick continues and no matter how badly the O.L.D stink up the arenas next week and no matter how fat they've gotten, they're getting signed without a doubt. Anyone want to bet that WWE's gonna try and sell the Road Warriors and the Dudley Boyz as a "dream match"? Please!

Ok, so maybe all the other guys haven't worked, but will THIS be the man to save WWE???

Um...probably not.

Not as close to fact as one might believe. Hawk's been burying McMahon for years. Calling him something close to Satan.

As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh, haven't you?

Fact. Their "surprise" return to those dark matches next week will obviously get big pops since most of the crowd probably won't be expecting it. And that'll probably be enough to convince WWE that they're worth something but really may just run out their welcome after a couple weeks.

Ok, there first stint in the WWF earily 90 to 92 was great. There return late 96 or 97 was ok til the started doing strange crap to them in late 99 or 2000. I could stand to see them back but don't want to see them for long if they did get on television.

And whats funny is, I think Road Warrior Animal just did a NHB radio interview and he said WWE is bring the Road Warriors back cause they have talent not cause WWE wants to continue their "nostalgia act". I love the Road Warriors but I think Animal has it backwards.

Let's just hope they don't start trying to "get in WWE shape" for their return. There was a recent picture of them online and they weren't completely out of shape, but still no where close to what they were back in the day.

Probably Fact.

You can thank the WWE's new head of talent for this one.

Two months ago, this would have been sound logic. However, the return of Sable and Piper show Vince will take in people who have sued him/called him just short of a murderer.
Will the Road Warriors return: Sadly, yes. And it kills me to say I'm not excited about a Road Warrior return, because going back to their AWA days I've always had a soft spot for the Hawk/Animal/Ellering triumverate of destruction. Plus Johnny Ace appearing to grab power just about secures this signing.
Now, an idea on the next nostalgia signing for Vince: He can try to catch in on pop culture, and try to make up for the loss of Steve Austin in just one move: Signing the idol of millions, Austin Idol. It would capitalize on American Idol and Steve Austin. True, it has no logical basis, but then again, isn't that what most of Vince's booking for the past two years has represented?

Let me see if I understand this. The Red Sox #2 starter is now the closer on days he doesn't start? And it's only May? And I thought working on the doctorate would have been the thing to cause full blown alcoholism.

The coyote goes... The L.O.D. have always been the quintesential comic book hero wrestlers, due to weird facepaint and shoulder pads with spikes (which, might I add, they never used as weapons to the best of my memory).

I do have fond memories of them in the early nineties, but their feud with the New Age Outlaws made them look rediculous.

I was going to say that "Fact or Fiction" trend is being overdone, but then I remembered the dreaded "open letter" era.

I seem to remember them jamming one of the spikes into Dusty Rhodes's eye (I think) at one point

I think that was not "one of the spikes," but THE spike. I am referring of course to the golden railroad spike Paul Ellering would carry around inside a rolled up newspaper.

The old LOD (no pun intended) kicked ass, but the last version sucked and this version would suck wind, no fun intended.

They'll get the initial pop during their first couple of matches -- but then again so would Brutus Beefcake, Doink the Clown, Road Dogg or any other retread from when times were better. That doesn't mean its a good idea to sign them to a contract.
If they have them do a quick four or five shot deal, I don't have a problem with it... but you just know their is going to be a long-term contract involved. I've even heard the rumors of them and Goldberg fighting Three Minute Warning in a special `match from hell'. Ugh.

They will be back. The new head of talent reasearch of kissing Vince's ass (or whatever) Johnny Ace and Animal are brothers I believe so id say it will happen.

Hmm, if Ace is related then it's a lock.

I've seen LOD, and I've endured LOD2000 (or whatever it was, I was only watching that stuff on tape), so I think I've seen all of Hawk and Animal that I ever want to.

I can't believe this one-man nostalgia trip is cutting into his already deep and talented roster, and forcing out stars who only need a chance to even appear on TV on a regular basis to get the crowd to care about them.

But even when they're WEREN'T on a nostalgia kick, the guys who have been forced out weren't getting much TV time. Its not like they would have cancelled the Piper stuff in favor of, say, a D-Lo Brown match (wrong brand, but just as an example). Guys like Benoit, etc. still get their spots on TV.

I agree that they have to focus on making new stars -- really, who doesn't think that? -- but you can't blame Hogan or whomever for taking away the lower mid-carders' TV time.

Falling into the quaint middle ground between fact and fiction we have this from www.wrestlingexposed.com (still can't linkify).

"The Road Warriors are expected to make their WWE debut this coming Monday on RAW. SLAM! Wrestling have rumored that the Road Warriors will debut by aiding Goldberg against Three Minute Warning, thus setting up a tag-team feud between the two teams."

Somehow I fear that a Road Warriors vs 3MW match is not going to have a lot of us in raptures of ecstasy, though theres still a part of me that likes young Rosie and Jamal.

That's interesting- I believe Animal said that they were getting tryout dark matches on RAW and Smackdown, and if they "passed", they'd be signed to contracts. Things can change, I guess.

No, but that fist sure does look dumb. Yeah, I've heard all about the logos and sets. Personally, I like the sets now, but since business has (apartently) been waning recently, why not try to spice things up in every way possible?
