Washington's wait could be almost over.
Exactly 33 years after the Washington Senators played their final game, the nation's capital might learn on Thursday that major league baseball plans to return next season.
Several baseball officials said Monday that the most likely day for an announcement that Washington, D.C., has been selected for the future home of the Montreal Expos is Thursday, although there was a slight chance the timetable could be moved up.
If you look at that article, you see that the Rangers kept the rights to the Senators name, so I guess they'll be the Washington Expos. Unless they can come up with some Washington/Americana style nickname in such short notice.

This also means we avoid the name "Virginia Fury"

The Washington Redskins (NFL) The DC United (MLS) The Washington Wizards (NBA)
There used to be a NHL. The Washington Capitals.
Here are some thoughts: Commodores, Democracy, Dragons, Eagles, Federals (The Fed), Patriots, DC Senators.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=1888266
According to baseball sources, MLB offered the Orioles owner two fascinating incentives:
# Baseball is willing to guarantee that the Orioles will earn a still-to-be-negotiated minimum in annual revenues. If their revenues fall below that figure, MLB would make up the difference.
# Baseball also is willing to guarantee a minimum franchise value for the Orioles. So if Angelos attempts to sell the team and can't find a buyer willing to pay that amount, MLB also would make up that difference.
Beyond those measures, baseball will help establish a new regional sports network in the Baltimore-Washington area that would enable the Orioles to continue to televise games in Washington and its Virginia suburbs.
Seems like a pretty crappy solution to me. The Expos are no longer wards of MLB, but the Orioles are (to a degree, anyway).

Seems a bit ironic since DC had a baseball team before Baltimore. It was the Orioles moving to Baltimore from St. Louis (the old Browns) in the early 50's.
Anyway, as for the name, if they aren't going to be named "Senators" then I'd go with "Nationals".

According to the ESPN.com article, they own Washington Senators. There could be a slim chance they could use it by having the team being from DC. Just tossing out ideas...
