Furthermore, PWInsider is reporting that not one segment broke 3.0. To put that in perspective, the first NITRO I could find since the "boom" that couldn't get to 3.0 was 11.20.00, four months before WCW went out of business.
The only possible bright side is that is was easy to find where those 12-49 year old boys went. Straight to ESPN, who broke cable records (Dallas News) on Monday, drawing 18.6 million total viewers.
Also, now that you're in the mood to speculate wildly about future events, PWInsider is also tracking a bubbling story about Jeff Hardy's possible third strike. (PWI via Rajah) I'm sure this'll get its own thread if this turns into anything.
So what now? For the last two months that they've aired regular season Monday Night Football games, ESPN has broken records. It is time to start thinking about moving THE show? Between these two news items, this might be the week to circle on the calendar to look back on if things are drastically different a couple years from now.| Promote this thread! | | odessasteps

The one last year involved the Patriots going for an undefeated season.
This one was a shoot-out involving two of the league's most popular teams and two of the top ten media markets (Dallas and Philly).
It will probably be closer to normal next week, although it is a game involving the Jets and Brett Favre.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But do ratings really matter that much anymore? They still do good enough and get the key demographics to watch. When they were competing against Nitro week in and week out, yeah. I'd think buyrates for PPVs, merchandise, ticket sales were more important.
I really hope this Hardy thing turns into a non-story.

Please don't say "return" and "Mr. McMahon" in the same sentence. Remember, when he returns we'll be hit with the "who dropped the light structure on him" plotline. I'm not sure we'll ever be ready for that. | Super Shane Spear

License fees from USA and other outlets are incredibly important. In their last quarterly report, $24.7 million was generated from licence fees versus $17.9 million for four PPVs (starting with Backlash). (When you add WM into year-to-date totals, PPV slightly outpaces license fee revenue.) Live events totaled $35.3 million, but given that TV serves as an ad for house shows (though, of course, not in the fashion that they once did) a legitimate slump in ratings advertises those events to less while also serving as an indication in a lack of interest that may manifest itself at the box office.
The important thing, of course, is to not freak out over one week's ratings. The lower ratings overall for some time can be a concernt, but unless they stay a bit below three for several months than there's nothing to go crazy about.

According to the PWInsider update to this story, Gregory Helms and Matt Hardy were on the plane with Jeff neither left with him so family emergency seems unlikely.

Not for nothin', but the show has been pretty boring lately. I thought it was just me fazing out of wrestling again, but maybe the numbers back up the fact that I'm not growing up after all. Then I watched ECW and was more entertained than I'd been with Raw.
You could blame CM Punk and Jericho, but maybe a show full of Rey, Kane, Batista and JBL isn't the best idea.

I really hope its not a blame Jericho time, because it seems we always get a disaster low rating around the fall and HHH doesn't have the belt. So, its time to throw him back into the mix. Raw's ratings are going to be low for awhile, because America's favorite sport is back and has a rotating schedule. Its going to be a long fall for the WWE. | redsoxnation

You're certainly not being fair to Jeff Hardy by calling him a 2 time loser FLEA. He is only a 2 time loser under the current system, he's had more drug problems than that. As for the ratings: If they didn't make such a big deal about how they did head-to-head vs. MNF a few weeks ago during the pre-season I wouldn't consider it a big deal. They put the ratings issue back on the table.

Apparently, being inebriated. Not a wellness violation. Story over, I reckon, although probably doesn't help his case as far as being trusted with a title run. But I kinda figured the Jeff/HHH feud was more about turning Hunter heel against a really well-liked babyface than it was about Jeff finally getting the big win. | | Pages: 1 2 Next
