Does this speed up the Eugene character's storyline, ya think? This comes at a terrible time for the E, when Eugene is one of their 5 most popular acts. Can he stay face and over with the crowds if Dinsmore and the E were to drop the act in the next couple months to avoid being sued?

Here's the last of the article: "As a matter of fact, the entire story line that "Raw" is developing with the Eugene Character has been stolen from one of our shows. Dave and I can tell you exactly where their story line is going and what is going to happen, because they didn't even have the decency to change it a little!"

What, did they write a show about a 'special' guy who goes to work at his uncle's plant, is assigned to a middle manager returning from sick leave, wins arguments in weekly productivity meetings by quoting other people's memos, is protected by popular company vice-presidents and lands a big meeting with the guy vying to be the new plant foreman?

What story could the WWE be stealing?

It's hardly an original storyline. Ask them where they stole it from.

I dunno about anyone else, but I don't know how to contact these TV guys, so I'll ask you instead since you claim it's not original: where DID they steal it from?

Yeah, I seem to recall another article a while back saying that Eugene's character was supposed to be based on Warren, from There's Something About Mary.

But yeah. If this is REALLY true, then they should just take it to the courts.

Well... it makes me wonder whether or not SpikeTV saw the Eugene concept, liked it, then went to Vinnie Mac and said, “Hey, we'd like you to try this,” not telling WWE where they got the idea from. If that's what happened, WWE would be an unwitting accomplice.

Then again... I'd really have to see just how closely the two Eugenes are related before I had the necessary information to judge for myself.

Yeah, I read the Eugene storyline the other guys had, and while “quoting other people's memos” and “mimicking other wrestlers' moves” seem to be about the same thing in their proper context, nothing else really jibes.

And even that's different... Eugene's doing it because that's what he knows growing up watching wrestling, and this other guy's...? Who knows. Baseless, although I'd like to see someone sue so these guys can be smoten.

Remember this thread from a month or two back? In his "Shoot Interview" James Cornette talks about the 'real' Eugene, a kid who used to hang around at WWE events whenever they were in his area. Surely that is just as plausible as this ripped off comedy accusation?

Difference being that you can use real-life circumstances, but in the world of television, you can't use somebody else's idea and not credit them for it. The courts will decide whether or not these guys have a valid claim, but the validity of their claim is moot in this discussion.

I originally asked how the WWE will handle the Eugene character if this guys are actually right and Spike TV pushes the panic button? Is that the end of Dinsmore for now or can he survive as a face? Do they pull a quick heel turn on a guy who's only just building a fanbase?

Oh, this is fishing for publicity & a potential settlement if ever I heard it. A press release, directed to an online web wrestling site?

{ Sorry, you must be logged in to see this text! }

Excerpts from pwtorch's citation ...

I have some interesting facts that you might be interested in. My name is { Sorry, you must be logged in to see this text! } ...
Wonder if this is the same guy who seems to have a bit of recognition as a magician, albeit exclusively in conjunction with a couple of magic tricks.

and for the last ten years my partner{ Sorry, you must be logged in to see this text! } and I have been creating a show { Sorry, you must be logged in to see this text! } which is shot and produced in Philadelphia.

Our most popular character on the show is Eugene, the mentally challenged actor who is played by me!
Odd that a comedy show with a 10-year run, which is "shot" (implying televised), which has enough visibility to have a "most popular character", has not one hit from a Google search. Not an ad or review in a local newspaper, a hit on a public access TV lineup, an advertising website, nothin'. Hmm.

We have spoken to our attorney and he is in the process of developing a case.
Threatening to sue. Hmm. (If you're serious about a lawsuit, just park the car & do it.)

    This is a huge story,
You wish.

and when people see our Eugene Character that was developed 10 years ago, and is still very popular on our show, they will immediately reach the conclusion that Nick Dinsmore stole the character.
Takin' it to the Street! Power to the People! Hell No, We Won't Go! (No, wait, that last one's wrong.) Dinsmore, you corporate bastard, you're trying to keep the little guy down! Everybody reading this must immediately find a way to see our show, so you can judge for yourself!!

Puh-leeeease.

Wait... is emma actually proposing actual FACT-CHECKING before a story gets run on the Torch? No way!

(BTW, kudos to you on that bit of research.)

It wasn't a story run by the Torch, rather they just posted the press release and stated it was only a press release. They do this all the time with all of ROH's and TNA's press releases.

It's almost certainly rubbish. emma's google search suggests as much, as does the fact that noone has mentioned this before.

Methinks the Torch has been had.

If they start a Case; the WWE's Legal Defense Team should be comprised of the Cerebral Assassin; Triple H, "The Brain" Heenan, and that guy who was O.J.'s attorney...

In all seriosity; what the hell is it with people and their stupid lawsuits? I watch TV and I havent heard of this damn show, ever... They should be sued for wasting time and money, like I am right now!

Lets face facts; these guys were striving to get on Spike TV, the braintrust that gave us Stripperella (sp?), The New Ren and Stimpy, Gary the Rat, and a whole lot of Blind Date and Real TV. Granted, MXC and Joe Schmo were brilliant, but still, these bozos got rejected by Spike TV.

All this hogwash is a case of namedropping. The whole damn press release reads more like a sales pitch for their show than any real gripe with the WWE. By announcing himself and his partner, and their show, they're hoping to create a bit of a buzz, and garner some attention to their show. Hell, the name of their show has already appeared in this thread, so word is spreading, as Google should have at least two hits for the title of the show now; here, and maybe the PWTorch article. Appearantly, emma's search didn't even pull up the PWTorch article.

Now curious people will go out of their way to find this crap, and might actually pay a lot just to see if there's a likeness.

This whole thing is definitely a big steaming pile. I can actually see these too assclowns winning a lawsuit though, just like the Panda people did. Everyone wants a piece of the "E". .......
"We have spoken to our attorney and he is in the process of developing a case. This is a huge story, and when people see our Eugene Character that was developed 10 years ago, and is still very popular on our show, they will immediately reach the conclusion that Nick Dinsmore stole the character."

.............
So why don't you then, or do you have to have your attorney "develope" that for you too? I so hope these two get laughed out of court if it even makes it that far.

Actually, by using the hide tags, Google will not see the name of the show. This thread will not index for them at all.

On top of that, wasn't the explanation for Eugene already given by one sheet already?

http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=19544

So one of these stories is not true...and it's either "The Character was ripped off a show that is non-existant at best that no one on Earth seems to know it from Adam at worst" OR it is "Character was based on an actual "special" fan named Eugene who actually used to appear in the WWE dressing room".

Even if their show is "non-existant" in that it's not on TV, that's no different from the way most movies and television shows are created: they film a bunch of shows or a movie, then try to sell the show/movie to networks/studios and either get an on-going series or a distribution deal.

Hypothetically, if their show was on community cable-access television, would there be a difference? The show wasn't on TV, as suggested by the fact that they went to SPIKE TV trying to pitch ideas for a series based on their material. Many comedy troupes do the same - shoot a bunch of half-hour sitcoms comprised of different sketches, then attempt to interest a network in at least one of the sketches for a sitcom.

It might be a publicity stunt, but there aren't enough details to determine what the truth here is. People on this board are always fast to jump to conclusions!

I don't know Kentish, Cena is booked as pretty damn unstoppable. He lost the title after he beat five other guys and was already exhausted to Edge with the MITB thing and nobody beats the guy. He fights multiple people and always comes out on top.
