It could be that it's just my hand me down computer that's been pieced together, but it seems that about 50% of the time my computer stalls and has to be shut down and restarted after getting my sports updates, scores, and Peter Gammons insights from ESPN.com. Does this happen to anyone else.

On a side note: Peter Gammons is a freakin GOD! Is there anyone that knows more about anything than this man. He could whup Dr. Jack Ramsey, Meltzer or Dr. Ruth.

See, I'm hoping that's sarcasm, but I'm fearing it isn't...

Peter Gammons is like Entertainment Tonight. He knows everyone and he's everybody's pal. As an evaluator of talent he is not very thorough. Folks at the Baseball Prospectus are the gods of analysis, while John Sickels (who does contribute to ESPN.com) is the guru of minor leaguers. This is not an opinion, it is fact, brother.

As for the actual loading of the page - I have had a couple of problems in the last few days of the page not loading. But it hasn't crashed my browser.

Are you talking about the extra downloads that you can get from ESPN.com? like the Java applets? Because it could be those that are causing the problems.

My question about espn.com is, what the hell is the deal with the "Insider" stuff? I really want to read about the upcoming NFL draft, and Mel Kiper's prospects and stuff, but I have to pay? Who does he think he is? It was all free last year at this time.

Big websites are finally realizing that the only way they can make money is to charge for services. Yahoo's Fantasy Football gave away real-time stat tracking last year, but charged eight bucks for it this year.

In these cases, you're at least getting something extra in return, unlike 1wrestling, where all you get is respite from wave after wave of pop-ups. Oh, and Tommy Fierro's fantasy booking.

I forgot to mention it earlier, but even though he is no Gammons, John Clayton is a super pimp as well. I think he does only football for ESPN, but he was always a guest on Sports Radio in Seattle and that man knows everything about everything.

I like Clayton more than Gammons. Clayton is usually 90% right on his stories whereas Gammons is lucky to be batting 500.

As far as paying for crap on the net, I don't mind if I am getting something I am interested in. Like the Yahoo Fantasy stuff. But paying to download music is not happening. I mean, the labels' services suck. You don't get hardly anything for your money. It is a total ripoff

espn.com's my home page. I haven't had a problem with it ever since I've been connected.

Also that ESPN insider service has been around for a very long time, before the ign.com's and other sites started restricting access. And the good thing is, the insider section doesn't add as much to the website itself, so you aren't really being gypped.

The insider thing is liek $5 a month. I figure that's one day I bring my lunch to work instead of getting fast food.

When you guys talk about John Clayton and Peter Gammons being the Ayatollahs of football and baseball knowledge, respectively, don't you guys think you would be able to do the same if your only responsibility was following a certain sport?

If I got paid high 5 figures to call Billy Beane and ask about the impending Hall of Fame career of Todd Van Poppell, I think I could do it.

And THEN Beane would tell you to go call John Hart and leave him alone - he still has to decide if he wants to go to Boston.
