Tony Kornheiser has been suspended as host of ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" for comments he made on his radio show last week about Hannah Storm's wardrobe, according to several media reports.
Kornheiser apologized to Storm after making the remarks.
An ESPN spokesman says he will be suspended "for some time," which is expected to translate into a few days.
Kornheiser said Storm was wearing "a horrifying, horrifying outfit" and a "very, very tight shirt.
"She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body," he added. "I know she's very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won't ... but Hannah Storm ... come on now! Stop! What are you doing? ... She's what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point."
The columnist and broadcaster opened his radio show the next day by saying, "I apologize, unequivocally ... I'm a sarcastic, subversive guy ... I'm a troll, look at me. I have no right to insult what anybody looks like or what anybody wears. That, I think, should go without saying."
We eagerly await analysis from the usual suspects.
Man, this is how many suspensions now for TK? And half of them have been for remarks that no one was particularly offended about. Hell, I personally don't see what's so bad about what he said that warrants a suspension.
I'm gonna let you finish, but my pink shirt demands your attention!
ESPN is such a tight ass group that anything remotely slamming the company is going to get someone in hot water. PTI is their best show, they better not fuck around with it.
Kornheiser mocks Hannah Storm's outfits on almost a daily basis. Maybe he should, maybe he shouldn't, but if ESPN has never said anything to him before then why should he think there would be an repercussions. Oh well, he probably doesn't even care.
I remember thinking it was a little on the harsh side for Tony when I heard it, but it fell into his normal bit of commenting on bad fashion choices by people on TV. Kornheiser has ripped NBC Today's Hoda Kotb's outfits (sundresses in winter) far more viciously on a nearly daily basis for six months, and no one outside the listeners of the show either knows or cares. I think he's made two comments about Hannah Storm in the same time, usually about her not wearing age/situation appropriate outfits (and he may have a point!)
The reason Tony's off PTI for these comments is one sports blog picked up (TheBigLead), and they're all so incestuously reliant on linking to each other for stories, eventually it found it's way to one (SportsByBrooks*) who opted to one gallantly fight for the honor of Mrs. Storm.
Which, really, still shouldn't mean anything: you've got a post about an attractive woman, and you've got 80 comments about how, if the opportunity ever presented itself, the commenter would opt to copulate with this woman. That's no different than 35% of all blog posts on the internet. However, ESPN has a ugly history with issues in the workplace and probably felt the need to be proactive on this issue to 'prove' they're changing.
I'm guessing he's back on PTI next week. And if I was really smart, I would've done this post on my own blog and then sent it all the sites to get links back.
* - This particular blog has made a strange transition from including a photo of an attractive woman in every post to trolling social networks in search of athletes saying something stupid enough to easily be blown up into a controversy, and this sort of hit both concepts.

I remember when Steve McNair was murdered, SbB had a bunch posts basically saying "check out these hot pixxxx of McNair's mistress and cold-blooded killer!"
Deadspin is saying Tony K might have gotten nicked because he mocked Chris Berman's weight, moreso than his criticism of Storm's clothes.

I didn't find anything particularly offensive about what TK said. Although I would say he's wrong about Hannah Storm: she's still increably smoking hot. Now, Chris McKendry on the other hand I could see getting mocked. She's always looks more suited for library duty than for hosting SC.
It makes me wonder what male *hasn't* been suspended while working for ESPN. Off the top of my head I can think of Kuselias, Tirico, and Kurkjian among others.

I take it you've never about Tirico's stalking of a production assistant in the old ESPN days.
read Mike Freeman's book about ESPN.
As for TK, nothing new. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd suspension over the years. More time at the beach house.
Assuming there are no long term consequences for Kornheiser, this is highly amusing to me. I was watching SportsCenter last night/this morning and for some reason Hannah Storm's wardrobe caught me eye and struck me as kinda out of place and borderline inappropriate for a SportsCenter anchor. Probably not as bad as TK was saying, but it definitely got my attention. And I'm usually barely paying attention when I'm watching SportsCenter. Just kinda funny to me he would get suspended for making comments that just so happen to be thinking at almost exactly the same time.

I have always had, and still have, a completely random and based-on-nothing crush on Chris McKendry. Don't ask me to explain it because I can't.
As for TK and his comments, I don't get the need for a suspension but ESPN sure seems to be overly sensitive about this stuff now. TK's right, though. Most everybody else is dressed like they're, you know, professional news people but Hannah Storm daily wears outfits that could best be described as "body condoms". I'm with StingArmy in that these skin-tight body sheaths seem just a little out of place; factor in all of the stories and rumors swirling about the behavior behind-the-scenes at ESPN, and it makes me wonder what she's thinking.

Rumor has it that TK will be making a guest appearance on the Dan Patrick radio show tomorrow (per DP at the end of today's show -- hinting it without saying it). While I will love to listen to it, it has the makings of getting him further in trouble with ESPN.

I thought the same thing this morning when Paulie was trying to call into TK's show. Wilbon's been on DP's show a few times, but the timing is probably all bad for Tony to make an appearance now.

Best episode of the season...which I realize doesn't carry much weight, but still. I loved "Buddhist Stan" and his encounters with the car salesman (especially the music stings).
