In the quest to have about hundred people hosting each of their NFL preview shows, ESPN has added Rush Limbaugh to the lineup for Sunday NFL Countdown:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2003/0714/1580436.html

Rush is apparently suppose to give views from the common fan's perspective. He gets his own segment to discuss news, and exchange banter with the rest of the crew. He also gets "three challenge opportunities" that he may use at his discretion. Um, what the heck are those? Is this the equivalent of calling bullshit on somebody? What if he uses four, does he get penalized (enter fat joke here)?

Anywhoo, let the Rush bashing begin (if anyone still cares).

Why bash Rush? He can relate better to the average fan than Dennis Miller did(which is why Rush was a finalist for the third man in the booth gig that Miller got).

Remember this though: Rush = ratings.

Anything is an improvement over Shannon Sharpe. As long as its just the NFL pregame show and not Primetime or; even worse, College Gameday with my Lord and Savior Lee Corso and his magic pencils, then it won't impact my football watching experience.

Still waiting patiently for the return of Paul Lind to network television.

Hate to tell you this, but Michael Irvin is Sharpe's replacement. I'm not sure if you'd call that an improvement. He was a funny guy on Best Damn Sports Show, but I don't think he can hang with the boys on Sunday mornings.

First off, it's STERLING Sharpe, not Shannon. Shannon is still playing.

Second, "Sunday NFL Countdown" was the pregame show that I watched last year. I don't know if I could stomach Rush and Berman on the same show.

The thing I've always loved about Countdown is all the people know what they're talking about. Fox's pregame show is the McPregame Show, with little to no emphasis on content and detail and too much placed on pretty graphics and catchy theme songs. CBS' show was just crap, filled with has beens who can't stay away from the game.

But now countdown looks like it might be falling into the same traps.

Is Rush Limbaugh a football player? Did he ever coach the game? Does he have any experience in sports broadcasting?

NO! Then keep him the fuck off of ESPN.

Amen to that. Thank God they don't do this crap to College Gameday, which is by far and way the best pregame show for any sport period.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

I think Rush actually started out working in baseball, with the Royals organization, I think. Sure, it's baseball, but hey, it's still sports.

I think Rush will do a great job! He, in fact, did work for the Royals for a short time, not that he didn't anything baseball related.

I find Limbaugh to be funny and opinionated. He'll probably do a decent job of this gig.

Was Dennis Miller any different? Rush always talks about the NFL on his program, and he is an entertaining guy as well as a sports freak. I'll actually tune into the Fox Pregame show, something I don't usually do. I'm not a big fan of those guys. College Gameday is ten times more entertaining, the screaming fans in the back(been there front row), switching locations every week, and just the fact that College Football is more exciting makes it that much better.(Whoah, what a runon)
Rush should prove to be entertaining, and if not, he'll probably only have a 5 minute gig during an hour pregame show.

I didn't care much for Dennis Miller, either.

ESPN already has Berman, TJ, Mortensen, Stu Scott, Steve Young, Mark Malone, Sterling Sharpe.....they don't need anyone else.

FOX's pregame show is more entertaining, in my opinion, just because the three main guys have so much chemistry (Jimmy Johnson sticks out, but knows his stuff). They get too caught up in the celebrity stuff and Gillian Barbarie is awful, but when they're on, it's great. For just pure football coverage, ESPN is much better.

"Sunday NFL Countdown" is the only time I can tolerate Chris Berman. He does a good job there. Tom Jackson, and the improving Steve Young are also good. But my two favorite parts of "NFL Countdown" are Da Mort and "The Mayne Event."

I don't watch Fox NFL Sunday, because of that Idiot Terry Bradshaw, and Psycho Jillian Barberie.

And The NFL Today is just as bad with Jim Nantz and Shawn Mic I mean Deion Sanders.

I agree on you with Berman. He makes me want to watch the Home Run Derby on mute. "BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK...GONE!" The guy sounds like a chicken.

And I don't see how anybody would want to hire "Neon" anymore. He might come into your office and say, "The Lord Jesus told me that you need to pay me an extra million dollars, and if not, he told me to sue you."

I used to like Chris Berman but he's really becoming a parody of himself. As for Rush Limbaugh (blah) I better go check around for another pre-game show

I don't get why everyone is bashing Limbaugh.

Do you agree with all of Deion Sanders' political views? How about Terry Bradshaw? Do you even know what they are?

You don't, and it doesn't matter - because it's about football.

I'll wait to judge this until I hear what Rush has to say about football.

Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.
