Hank Williams Jr was on "Fox and Friends" on FOXNews when he said:

"...of Obama's outing on the links with House Speaker John Boehner: "It'd be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu."

Asked to clarify, Williams said: "They're the enemy," adding that by "they" he meant Obama and Vice President Joe Biden."

to which ESPN responded with:

"While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to 'Monday Night Football,"' ESPN said in a statement. "We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

One of the local radio shows aired that interview in its entirety. When you have Fox News hosts reacting like you're from Mars, you KNOW you went too far.

It's a win for The Leader. This should save them a boatload of money in royalties.

Boy it's ok when the Bill Moyers and others said on live TV they hoped President Bush was shot and killed, the double standard is a joke... What happened to free speech? I guess that is only for liberals!

1. What was ESPN supposed to do about Bill Moyers?
2. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
He has the right to say what he want without going to jail for it, and ESPN has the right to "fire" him if they think his words will have a negative impact on their brand. HURRAY CAPITALISM!

Actually, don't bother, that has absolutely nothing to do with this entire episode. Mr. Boffo summed everything up quite nicely.

Ending the double standard was my point. Got a little fired up, Sorry.

By the way Boffo, Hank Williams was not fired from ESPN.

I know. That's why I put "fire" in quotes. They made it clear that he wasn't an employee to begin with. But I figure them not playing his song is going to cost him money, so it's similar to a firing.

For the record, a Google on "'Bill Moyers' Bush shot" and "'Bill Moyers' Bush killed" turns up nothing like that, not even from far-right sites.

I also wish I'd read the rest of the thread before trying to Google up something remotely like Moyers saying that.

OTOH, Hank Jr. had a semi-hit with a song he wrote called "If the South Woulda Won, We'd a Had it Made", so I wasn't all that surprised to hear this coming out of his mouth. Or the non-apology apology Which did Not come from a Publicist.

Freedom of speech is not a guarantee of an audience.

Another angle on the Hank controversy was made by 'The Daily Show' Monday: Just an hour before the Hank interview, the Fox & Friends hostess complained about Rosanne and celebrities solicited for political commentary.

The double irony is Fox & Friends are celebrities not journalist. The world didn't end without the song, plus who the hell is really watching it for the song anyway or let alone a Colts/Bucs game without Manning?

Hank apologizes via Facebook (via the Baltimore Sun (baltimoresun.com)

"I have always been very passionate about Politics and Sports and this time it got the Best or Worst of me. The thought of the Leaders of both Parties Jukin and High Fiven on a Golf course, while so many Families are Struggling to get by simply made me Boil over and make a Dumb statement and I am very Sorry if it Offended anyone. I would like to Thank all my supporters. This was Not written by some Publicist."

Right. He was angered by "leaders of both parties." Of course.

I can't see T.O. as a Raider. With Moss, Porter & the emergence of Doug Gabriel, the WR position is getting a little cramped in Oakland. But what about AFC West teams Denver & San Diego?
