So does this mean that it will eventually turn out to be Return of the Sith?

So...what is it exactly the Sith want Revenge for ?
But seriously, its pretty vague in all the movies what happened with the Sith and the Jedi. But after the first 2 God awful Star Wars prequels...does anyone really care anymore? All the confusing political intrigue that padded out the plot really hurt the prequels IMHO. Not to mention Jar Jar Binks. I'm further alienated by the fact that fans will never be able to obtain theatrical cuts of Star Wars on DVD. So I guess all I have to say is, the Force is not with me.

I love the title, it appears that they are going with a ton of similarities between this movie and Jedi, which is my favorite, so I am pleased. At the Comic-Con, they revealed the title and showed sketches of the Wookie homeworld and parts of Anakin/Obi's first duel. So, I'm digging it.
I take offense with the whole political thing ruining the movies since trade sancations do cause wars, I know that no one believes that, but since no one really knows history, its no shock to me. I love the whole political idea since you see the workings of the Emperor's mind. Its very cool to see Makavalian politics at work.
I do agree Phantom was a bit of a downer and Clones need less CGI and more good actors ie Anakin. However, I did get goosebumps during the last fifteen minutes of Phantom and the Clone mystery plus the final battle was good. I really enjoyed the Yoda/Dooku duel since its how a small guy would fight in a battle anyway espically one who can control his movements.
I have been fine with the prequels and I do think the next one will be the darkest of all of them. Almost everyone has to die in this film plus we get three main events. Anakin/Dooku, Anakin/Obi and Vader/Obi. Possibley even Vader/Windu which you know will feature Samuel as a complete bad ass. I am getting excited about the film and I'm trying to stay away from spoilers and negative fan sites bashing it, because they have nothing else to do.
I'm glad they went with this title, as it's going to essentially end up being the dark version of Return of the Jedi.
The political stuff is fine, but really should have been underplayed for a more character-oriented stuff. The original trilogy was great, because of the interaction between Luke, Han, and Leia. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme just haven't had the same chemistry and I really don't see this "good friendship" the two had. It may have been the easy thing, but I wish Lucas went with the love triangle here.
Since Episode III is going to primarily center around Anakin's fall, I don't see how they can fall into the same political pitfall as the previous two, though. It has to be more character-oriented this time around and I bet the duel will be intense.

Maybe I've missed something, but I don't think anyone has argued that the problems with the first two movies were that the political stuff was unbelievable as it relates to war. I think the bigger argument is that the way its presented makes it boring to watch. Political intrigue can be exciting, but a) you need good actors and dialogue to pull it off, and b) most people don't go to Star Wars for the politics, they go for the action (Star WARS). Maybe if the politics had taken a bigger role in the original trilogy, people wouldn't have such issues with it now.

Couldn't agree more. Maybe I'll feel differently once all the hype starts up properly, but I'm just not 'feeling it' at all.
The only saving grace of the first two films was the comedy value of seeing Yoda fight like a mentalist. Other than that they were overly plot laden with a pitiful attempt at a forbidden love story, and even worse action sequences. I've been more and more apathetic to the series with each film, as compared to the LOTR series where I started of with just vague interest in seeing the first one, but was like a kid at Christmas in the lead up to the third.

The political stuff is irrelevant. It's just to show Palpatine manipulating *EVERYTHING* behind the scenes. He gets the Trade Federation to blockade Naboo, knowing the Senate would be paralyzed, knowing then he could force a vote of "no confidence" for the sitting Chancellor, knowing he would get the sympathy vote. He then manipulates Jar Jar into backing the measure to create a clone army, and from there it's just a hop, skip, & a jump to dissolving the Senate and having total control.
It's got to be explained how he rose to power. They just can't go from Senator Palpatine *BOOM* to Emperor.
I was banking on "Rise of the Empire." And in relation to Jedi, it seems to make more sense to call this one "Return of the Sith" and then "Revenge of the Jedi." After all supposedly the Sith havent been seen in 1000 years and they return to wipe out the jedi. Then Luke the last Jedi takes Revenge on the Sith.
Ill throw in my $0.02 on how Ive been disappointed with the Prequels. Like everyone else I agree that the dialogue has been Awful in both movies. Especially Anakin in Ep II. And Its criminal that Lucas miscast Anakin the way he did. Hayden Christianson just did not have the acting chops to pull off such a crucial role. I think it should have been Ryan Phillipe or even James Franco.
And I think they shouldve done more with the Jedi. Other than the Yoda surprise in Ep II i think the missed the boat with the Jedi. They should have portrayed them way tougher and more just bad ass than they did. I dont think it would have hurt to have some Hong Kong style in the light saber battles. I watch Blade II and the sword choreography kills anything in Ep I or II. Where was the wire work? These are things we expect nowadays. This really hit home when I watched the "Clone Wars" cartoons. They waited till then to show the Jedi as almost unbeatable fighters, especially Obi-Wan and Mace Windu. Windu takes out almost an entire army of Droids without even his lightsaber. Thats the kind of stuff I would have liked on the big screen.

Jedi don't seek Revenge. Anger, hatred - marks of the dark side.
I'll agree Anakin was mis-cast. I'd even go back to TPM - they should have made Anakin a bit older. In the jump ahead to AOTC, it looks as if Anakin aged 10 years while Amidala only aged 3.
An no wire work for the lightsaber battles. It would look out of place when viewed next to the original trilogy battles.
I don't think Anakin was miscast. Hayden bears a resemblance to Mark Hamill and actually has captured some of the mannerisms of Darth Vader quite well. Some of his (poorly written) lines were very, very poorly delivered, and I attribute that to bad direction. Hayden really came through in other scenes, but I think he realistically plays Luke's father.
In the images I have seen in Episode III, Hayden has a much bolder look this time. Instead of playing the whiny, adolescent Skywalker, he's going to be mature and ready to face (and fail) his challenge.
Here's a pretty good side-by-side comparison shot.

I would rather have wire work than CGI.

Apparently you missed the best part of Episode 1. The Darth Maul vs Jedi handicap match. Best lightsaber fight to date. And it makes the original fights look like crap. Not that they needed too much help. I mean, why the hell does Obi-Wan do that little spin anyway? Couldn't Vader have just cut him down when his back was turned?

I think the Anakin character is fine, in theory, but poorly executed.
Remember, Luke was a extremely whiny in ANH. ("I just wanted to go to Toshii station to get some power converters."
Over time, and with some seasoning, he became the bad ass we see in Jabba's Palace. But that took 2 previous movies to solidify.
With Anakin, they really only had 1 movie to show his real nature (as in the 1st one he is but a mere child and hasn't developed much of his adult personality). So they have to, heavy-handed mind you, that Anakin is a whiny brat who thinks he's better than he really is. So they laid it on thick. Too thick.
Queen Amidala was a bad characterization by Lucas. I think Natalie Portman is a better actress than that part allows her to be. I think Lucas' vision on her is a bit off. Amidala should be more like Leia, striking, poised and can fuck you up verbally and with a blaster.
Jar-Jar was too much for what the story needed him for. He was fine in Ep II.
Ewan McGreggor and Sammy Jackson are the saving grace of the films. Hopefully we see more of Sammy in Ep III.
I think the political stuff is integral for the storyline and gets very little credit. This is a huge manipulation by the Emperor too steal the Republic. This is a plan that spans 4 movies. Very few storyline can make that claim. Actually, I think that political stuff is the best writing aspect of the the prequels.
The character interaction is lacking. I think it's due to too many characters having too many agendas. In the OT, everyone was against one, maybe 2 opponents. It made all the characters band together. And when one had to take care of a personal agenda, they introduced new characters for him/her to interact with.
I think that is the main problem with the prequels. Without that good character interaction it feels as if there is no "life" to the movies. It feels like a series of events that have some kind of common ground. Almost as if it was a Star Wars history book in movie form.
Please spare me of your over exaggerated illogical extremes, your conclusionary statements, and your lack of evidence.
I agree with Threepme, it does seem like a history lesson of Star Wars which I think is ok. We already know how the prequels end for the most part, The Emperor takes over the Republic and wins the Clone War, Anakin becomes Vader wipes out the Jedi and only Obi, Yoda, the droids and twins are left alive.
I do agree there are too many characters, but its hard not too. Many people affect history, so its hard not to show their side of the story. Espically when we are talking about the transformation of an entire Republic through Civil War to Empire. Its not something that just happens over night considering the size of the Republic. A Rebellion is a lot easier to focus than the complete works of an entire Empire.
I just think Lucas wrote Anakin a bit too whinny and stiff or Hayden played him too stiff. You never got the feeling Anakin was more than a tool. He needed some more human interaction with Obi-wan that was friendly. There was a joke here and there, but it honestly felt that Anakin cared nothing for Obi-wan even as a father figure. I will credit that Hayden did nail the I killed them all speech, I'm sure that took 100 takes though. That was the scene he needed to nail and for the most part he did, the Imperial March score helped though. Anakin/Padme was just not working and the video game like factory scene was corny. The rest of the movie works great if you cut out Anakin/Padme and the factory, do it sometime, it is actually a better film.
