... so I've been a sucker for the hype.

I wanted to check out how the concept of "a character steps out of a scene in the movie and into a scene in the video game" translated, so I picked this up today from EB. (with coupon for a $5 rebate when you purchase any gamecube or gba game $20 or more!)

The hacking ability looks neat, although I'm still learning how that works.

The gameplay itself isn't bad, although I'm still getting the hang of going all Matrix-y on the bad guys. Its neat to be able to run up and off walls and the like, although I'm not too far in, yet it seems crucial to master this. Especially once you start going against multiple guys with assault rifles. I keep running out of ammo and needing to run and kick, but that's just cuz I'm a lousy shot.

For some reason, this reminds me of some of the Star Wars games I've played for the prequels.

I picked this one up myself, and I agree with you, so far as the "matrix-y" aspect goes. I picked up the GCN version instead of the PC version, the controller vs. the keyboard being the deciding factor. Kung-fu fighting with the keyboard just didn't seem appealing.

Anyway, yeah. Multiple enemies are a nuisance. I find that using the action button is great in close quarters, because you can generally disarm guys right away and finish them off with kicks and punches. Also, running seems to work sometimes, as enemies are hesitant to come out from behind cover to pursue you.

I too gave into the hype...however, I regret it.

This isn't a BAD game, it's just a very AVERAGE game given what they could've done with it and what they were promising they'd do with it. After you've used your focus powers for a few hours, it really starts getting boring.

Thank GOD I got Def Jam Vendetta with it.

After many hours of play and much frustration. (plus Technical dificulties. Some of the FMV sequences freeze up. Particularly those featuring Monica Bellucci ) I managed to beat the game. I was rewarded with... a commercial?! A fucking commercial! I paid $50 for the privilege of working through a very average but flawed game for the ability to watch a commercial i could have downloaded off Kazaa in 30 seconds. HEATED!

I've already repackaged this ass-sandwich of a game and sold it back to Hastings (managing to get at LEAST 30 dollars store credit back). I cannot believe I and so many others bought into the hype for this crap pile. For the first 5 hours, it was shaping up to be a pretty average play, but once I started locking up non-stop and the gameplay got more and more boring, it was finally pushed off the edge of Worthless Shit Canyon by the self-promoting ending.

Wow my version (Xbox) never locked up. Which is wierd since I always have bad luck with buying buggy games. I enjoyed it, everything except the driving parts, cuz I suck at driving mostly (watch me play Midnight Club II) Now has those that beat it, hacked the sword? It is really damn hard and doing the hacking makes me feel like I am working, so I am waiting for more cheat codes, hopefully there is a cheat to get the sword. And the multi-player was a sweet cheat.

Life is a waterfall,We're one in the river,And one again after the fall. Swimming through the void. We hear the word, We lost ourselves, But we find it all? Cause we are the ones that want to play, Always want to go, But you never want to stay. And we are the ones that want to chose, Always want to play, But you never want to lose. Aerials, in the sky,When you lose small mind,You free your life.

Sword sucks. Nothing more than a glorified grab. No blood, not particularly fun, but wicked against bosses and vampires. But the hacking is not to difficult you just have to be sure to go though everything bit by bit. Search all the Directories execute all of the executables and remember all of the passwords the give you. I did the whole thing in a little more than a half hour and that was because i forgot to check my MAIL. Which by the way, they give you the password to if you do a ROOTSEARCH. Make sure that you call every single phone number they give you. Its very important to finishing the hacking mode. The sword by the way is only available if you have already beaten the main game. Im surpised at the no lock up though. Everyone i know has said the same thing as me. That the X-box version always locks up on the Monica Belucci scenes. Maybe your just lucky. Or maybe we're just not.

Oh and multiplayer RAWKED! For a simple add on the animations are just great. I love the Block/counter/dodge system too. Even bare bones multiplayer shows awesome promise. I'm hoping that they bring out a stand alone fighting game with Revolutions.

EDIT: periods dont go there.

I rented this game with my friend last week. I never encountered any permanent freeze with the Xbox version. Just momentary stutters from time to time when loading an in-game cinematic. The gameplay is a decent representation of the Matrix movies, though it can get pretty repetitive. Graphics aren't very detailed. The multiplayer cool but I wish the mode allowed you to use focus (bullet time). Also it should allow you to pick your characters and music for any stage. The counters are cool, but there seems to be lots of little glitches like how a player with 1% health dies without getting hit, or people getting up are invulnerable sometimes. The camera is crap. If the developers could have had an extra month to bug test, the experience would be more enjoyable.

My PS2 version's animated cut scenes would echo a few times, but I had no problems with the film footage.

I really enjoy the game, and I appreciate how the level saves don't overwrite, so you can go back and watch the videos at will. I'm an utter Matrix geek so I don't get tired of using bullet time or hearing the movie's sound effects in the game.

But I know not these phone and sword cheats. Can you post some?

The phone is just another part of hacking. You use the phone command to dail out with a series of numbers that you find in the computers Email system. Not much to it, just something that has to be done to complete hacking. The sword cheat is actually loaded from hacking after you beat the game and complete hacking mode. It's a program load. Similar to Trinity loading the helicopter program in The matrix.

My only complaint about the hacking is that after you beat the game, it resets itself so you can do it again with the sword file. Not that wasting five minutes to repeat what took about a half hour to figure out before was a grave waste of time, but if I did it all once, why should I have to do it again?

I didn't experience any technical difficulties on the Gamecube version, except that after the Persephone kiss, that FMV wasn't unlocked until I played through it a second time.

From a gameplay standpoint, I didn't like how there were certain levels where if you didn't know where you were supposed to go, you would wind up dying for no good reason. Specifically, I'm thinking of during the assault on the Reactor Core, when Ghost (who I played as) had to cover Niobe while she drew out the SWAT team. I would pick off the team for her, and then I would super jump over to one of the ledges and try to cross to the door. However, every time I tried to jump to the floor before the door, I would die, even if the jump was maybe a story long. Heck, I died trying to climb down the ladder, which was really dumb. Finally, I found the platform I was supposed to cross on. I suppose the levels where you had to keep someone alive and didn't count for what I'm complaining about. However, this didn't bother me all that much.

My real beef with the game is the story. Rather than following the story of Ghost/Niobe, and how that intersects with the plot of the movie, it felt as if this was where all the footage that wound up on the cutting room floor went. (pretty much most of the scenes with the Zion commander). The plot with they Keymaker escaping his cell just in time to save Niobe/Ghost from the Agent felt forced, especially given that he winds up back in his cell when they part. And Persephone's sole existence is just to kiss everyone, right? That whole chateau level felt like it was included just to allow people to fight against the vampires/werewolves and the twins (speaking of which, what were they doing in that parking garage? The only reason in the movie they were there is because the were able to follow Neo and co. through the door. Do they have a key of their own to get there, and if they do, why didn't they use it in the movie?) The sparring match against Seraph and the Smith chase at the end also felt like they were included for the sake of including it (although I understand why Smith would keep one of himself guarding the hallway). Also, why did the sentinels wait so long to bomb the Logos at the end? They struck Soren's team while they were still in the matrix. What took them so long to get to the Logos?

I do like that they showed Bane/Smith setting off the early EMP, but that's another scene that felt extraneous to the game. (as was Ballard's match with Seraph).

Overall, I agree with Venom. Its just an average game. And the extra footage (which I was hoping would help justify my purchase) really didn't. Still, I'm planning to play through again as Niobe to see some of her scenes, and I'll probably still get the Revolutions game when it comes out (will there be a revolutions game?)

And Firebird Man v. Police Car Man is insane.

I finally beat Enter the Matrix with both charactors. Niobe was first on normal and then Ghost on hard. That really kicked my ass but it will take about 10 hours each for both. (Unless you cheat) The one thing that got me, and I am surprised no one has mentioned it. When you play as Niobe and you meet the "new" Oracle she is very vauge about the future. But when Ghost meets her holy #### she dropped a huge nugget on him. I won't spoil it but I think Matrix 3 will be huge. My favorite parts of ETM is Roy Jones JR fighting Seraph, Niobe and Persophone kissing, Ghost secretly in love with Trinity and she showing up and sparring with him, and the first appearance of (no longer an agent) Smith. In fact I think I will quote him in my sig for now on

Who am I?...................I am the Alpha to your Omega...............The beginning of your end. -Smith (Enter the Matrix)

As mentioned in another thread, the DSi is out. I maybe kinda bought one by accident. It's pretty neat. Haven't played much except for WarioWare Snapped! and Art Style Aquia which I bought with my free 1,000 Nintendo Points (formerly Wii Points).
