Director Eli Roth has posted a message on his MySpace blog saying that because a workprint of his latest film, Hostel II, has been circulating on P2P sites, he has decided that "after next weekend the film will be gone from theaters ... and then the film will live on DVD."
ETA: Don't get me wrong; I'm not defending Roth here, just repeating his spin. I'm sure this is just a big attempt at an attention-grab by Roth. I have absolutely no interest in seeing this movie. I watched about half of the clip that was linked to in the other thread and had to shut it off because I found physically revulsive.
Yes, it's because of the P2P issue. It certainly isn't because it made $8M on its opening weekend and $3M on its second (a 63% drop). And it totally isn't because it would likely get pulled by the theaters themselves within the next week or two. Certainly not.
And I didn't realize the music industry was dead. When did this happen?
But oh well, putting it out on DVD will certainly show those pirates. Then they'll have to download the fully completed version and watch it again, after having just that workprint to begin with! Way to show'em, champ.

Exactly. Why would anyone want to download a workprint when you can get a full DVD rip? ;-)
