Here's a thought that Edge (no, not the REAL Edge) gave me on ITVR Radio tonight.

We've all been wondering about the belts, and how they're going to be defended (well, except for the Undisputed and Women's belts).

Well, the idea given to me was to have the Euro belt on one show, and the I-C belt on the other. This would leader to a "lesser belt" being on each show, and both the I-C and Euro belts would essentially mean the same when it came to the status of the belt holders.

This sounded like a great idea, and since Regal's on Raw and RVD's on SD, it looks like that's what they're going to do - but they need to raise the importance of the Euro belt so that it's on par with the I-C - not an easy task. How do you think they'll go about doing this? It makes for some interesting possibilities.

Well, unless something changed on Smackdown! this week - RVD and Regal are BOTH on RAW which is where a problem comes into that theory.

Of course, they could easily have Regal drop the Euro belt to someone on the other side and that's a quick fix, but we'll see.

I like the idea though of having the European belt mean something. The only time I've believed it to have any value was when Kurt Angle won it in January 2000.

Well, the way things are going the WWF will probably just 'dumb down' the IC Belt to Euro status, making both just as meaningful/less.

I think that has already happened. The top belt on the Smackdown side, as of Monday, was the Hardcore. So in essence If it went down like that come next Monday when the split is official, it could be viewed tat the Hardcore Title is important as the IC belt and more important than the Euro strap.

If you want to elevate the Euro Belt, keep it on Raw, and have Regal defend his title with the True Prince of Europe, D-Lo Brown.

D-Lo will hopefully be back on my TV, and for this, I am glad!

That's not that far of a stretch. The Hardcore Title was at this status, or at least very close to it, shortly after it debuted in late 1998-early 1999 before the hardcore novelty was lost.

I'd rather see them bring back the US title and use it as the secondary belt on one of the shows. I've never really liked the Euro title--I guess I'm too much of an old school fan but I've always thought it was silly to have a belt supposedly representing an area where the promotion almost never goes. All it seems good for are jokes where the champion claims to somehow have a European connection.

I'd much rather they bring the US and TV titles back, personally.

And KILL the damn Hardcore title already. PLEASE.

Elevating the Euro belt? Just skip this damn thing! Get rid of it, bury it 20 ft. deep, and never think of it anymore. Who gives a crap about it? The Euro title has never meant anything! It's just one more title that devaluates the other belts because it's nothing special to hold a belt, since there are so many. And why is this called "European" championship? Shouldn't it be something that's defended it Europe?

I'd have to disagree The European Title's meaning was at it's height when it was first started. The finals in the European Title between Owen and Bulldog was one of the best matches ever on free tv. Then Owen vs. HBK was good even though HBK eventually just gave the title to HHH, but it was still pretty meaningful because it was part of a Owen/HHH feud and NOD/DX feud, then HHH got upset by D-Lo in a pricless moment. THen D-Lo went from feuding with HHH, to X-Pac. X-Pac won it, then Shane McMahon, then Mideon. That's when it was over for the Europ tite. It's really too bad some of the most talented guys in the business (Jarrett, Angle, Jericho, Guerrero) have held it and not even that has helped it any.

Personally I don't think any of the titles have any importance. Nothing has been done with the IC Title lately, the Euro and Light Heavyweight Titles have not even been on tv. The Women's Division sucks, the Hardcore belt is stupid. The tag division is stale and needs new teams. And now even the World Title was ruined by putting the champion (Jericho) in opening matches, and making him not seem as important as most of the rest of the roster.

I hate to say it but one thing that the WCW did better than WWF was the importance of titles, OTHER than the World Title. Sure the World Title belonged to guys such as David Arquette and VInce Russo, but the other belts were not that bad. The Tag team belts seemed pretty important when the Outsiders had the titles, and their only competition was Steiners, Harlem Heat, and Barbarain/Meng (don't remember what they were called). Other than Rick Steiner and David Flair the US title was usually held by someone who was legitimately a World TItle contender. They always put over how important the TV Title since the champion had to defend it so much. And the cruiserweight title had some of the best matches.

SO personally when they flash those cute little graphics on the screen that say so and so title match, it doesn't add anything for me.

I think titles lost importance around the same time the WWF publicly began admitting wrestling is fake. Sure people realized it before then, but if the WWF doesn't even kayfabe it's attitude, why should the fans? By admitting it is all scripted, the WWF basically said what people bashed Russo for saying-titles are simply props to get stories over (which is true).

Kissing Vince's ass on worldwide TV comes with certain benefits...
I think that the Euro title will be elevated into something meaningful. I think Eddy will be the one to take it from Regal, since Eddy is supposedly coming back very soon. I hope so because I can't stand Regal.

You know, I personally like the idea of the IC title actually meaning something. I hope RVD holds the belt a long time and has some great opponents and matches with it. How about making the IC title mean something again before the Euro title?
