Not a bad idea. Either this or make him a colour commentator.

Good idea. With some practice; I think he'd make a fine face color commentator.

This. I think with some seasoning, Edge could be a great color commnetator. He is a natural on the mic.

I am sad to see Edge go, but in truth, I was tiring of him anyway. I hate Face Edge. I never liked any of his Face runs. he was so much better as a heel. The two things I will miss that could have happened is a potential tag team run again with Christian (winning the titles) and a feud with jericho if/when jericho came back.

Alas....

Thanks for all the years of lacing up the boots and giving 100%. One thing I could say about Edge - he loved the business and always had his heart in it.

Who would have thought that Christian would have been the last one left of Team REAK (Rhino, Edge, Angle and Christian)?

I'll join the chorus and say that he would do really well as a color commentator. At least, he would be an upgrade over Booker T from what everyone is telling me. Then again, maybe he could be revealed to be the mystery GM and that whole scene where he called it 'stupid' and destroyed the GM stand was just a ruse to throw people off his trail. I can hope this happens just so that we finally get of this stupid angle.

Sad to see him have to retire like this. I had gotten tired of his character the last year or so, but I always respected him as a wrestler because you could tell he really loves the business and goes all out to deliver a great performance. He just wasn't able to do so as much as he used to, but he does go out a champion with a victory at Wrestlemania: you can't ask for a much better way to retire.

Poor, poor SmackDown. Aside from Undertaker, Edge was THE SmackDown guy for the last few years. I hope he sticks around in a non-wrestling capacity.

Edge will always be my favorite opponent of Cena's. The way they did their feud really felt like there was genuine animosity between them. One of my all-time favorite Edge moments was just when Cena came out and cut a promo on him, and Edge just sat there for a moment before leading with a very quiet, "I hate you." For me, there are very few wrestling rivalries that feel real, and that was one of them.

One of my most abiding Edge memories is still him destroying Jose Estrada with that somersault tope in his debut match. There's a joke to be made abot Estrada's neck and karma somewhre in this, but I'm too bummed to make it.

I meet Edge a few years ago during his book signing tour, he couldn't have been nicer to my nervous/scared wife. A really great guy and he will be missed. I am sure they will do Christian/ADR, but if there was ever a time to just have one title, it would be now. The post-Mania culling is coming and Miz would be even more annoying as the man who put the belts together.

Only Angle didn't get the fusion surgery that Edge, Rhyno, and Benoit got. He got some alternative surgery to avoid the fusion, citing losing elasticity would have bad consequences at the time, if I recall. All things considered, that decision appears to have prolonged his career. He's certainly doing better than most of that list.

I'm thinking that if a doctor got his hands on Angle's MRI he'd be telling him to retire. Five years ago. And Angle would be ignoring him because he's deaf in one ear and too busy talking about how he feels great and he's going to do MMA and he pulled over to read a text message and decided to take a sober nap in the median.

Natch. He never seemed out of the woods though. (Actually he did, for that whole year I was like woo hoo the Rattlesnake is healed. But not so much.) All those other guys just come back and keep on keeping on for years. Benoit. Test. nevermind.

There's an odd bit of coming full circle with this I found interesting/sad. Edge will surrender the World Heavyweight Title tonight in the very same city (Albany, NY) he won his first WWE Title from John Cena at New Year's Revolution 2006.

Alberto Del Rio has been making the rounds on local media outlets today promoting SmackDown tonight. He told one interviewer he was shocked to hear Edge was so badly hurt. He also called it an honor to lose to him in his final match at WrestleMania. When asked what the plans were for the title he said "stay tuned" and gave his signature wink.

I don't think Hogan meant anything derogatory. I think he's noting Edge is an unusual circumstance of a wrestler actually following medical advice and walking away from the business for the betterment of his future quality of life - something the people he mentioned mostly didn't do. And he's saying if Edge felt he actually had a choice, he wouldn't quit and keep going.

I dunno, to me it reads like he's saying WWE forced his hand and wrestlers have worked hurt in the past and Edge should be able to do that too.

I hate to admit that I wasn’t sure if this was legit while I watched it, and now that I know it is, it sucks that I didn’t truly get to experience his speech. I kept expecting someone to come out and hit him with a chair.

Edge was never a favorite of mine, but I always liked him. It’s cool that he got a big win at WM to go out on. He had a great run over the last 15 years and should have no regrets.

Edge was great at filling the upper card as either a face or heel. He's a much better heel than a face, but the guy was consistant. I never viewed him as a true main eventer, but he filled a very important role and one that is going to be a lot harder to fill than I think people realize.

He's also one of the only top guys you never hear about causing problems, well, other than Lita.

Even in an era of title reign inflation, Edge still has a remarkable trophy cabinet. The official WWE bio page only lists which belts he won but not the number of times he held each title. I looked on Solie's for these.

11 world titles
at least 15 tag titles (it gets confusing with the unified reigns)
5 IC reigns
1 U.S. title reign
two successful MITB challenges for world belts
1 King of the Ring

That's what it reads like. But it's Hogan so it's full of BS. He forgets to mention that a guy like Hardy (wtf is he doing in that list of legends?) was physically beyond his prime even before ever hitting it, and the others are either dead, permanently injured or broke due to their lifestyle and cannot quit.

Edge did the smart thing. Retire before it's too late.
He's still young enough to enjoy his life and there's always that chance of returning in some other capacity later.
He better have the hobo beard when he does return.

It all seems so sudden but WWE made sure they are ready for it. The Christian-Alberto feud is hot. A ladder match is a good way to crown a new champ.

From reading those posts, it sounded like WWE didn't want him to just drop the show, but drop the site; like the deal was "Okay, we'll give you your job back, but you can never go on the Internet again.
