pwinsider.com reports...

by Mike Johnson @ 5:52:00 PM on 5/10/2004

WWE.com announced that UPN will air a one hour special on WWE champion Eddie Guerrero, titled "Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story" focusing on his career and comeback over the demons in his life on 5/26. I suspect it will be similar to The Stone Cold Truth special and will later be packaged onto a DVD. The article notes that it will discuss Guerrero's reconciliation with his wife and show backstage footage from when he won the WWE title at No Mercy for the first time. That should be a very powerful special, but it's nice to see Guerrero getting attention for what he did with his life and how he turned it around.

and thats all i have to say about that!

I think it's great that they're focusing on Eddy's near heroic recovery from self-destruction. However, wouldn't it have made some sense to air this prior to the PPV in order to maybe drum up some interest?

Substance abuse? When I hear CHEATING DEATH I think of how he nearly was killed in that car wreck. TO come back from that to be able to WALK is incredible, to be able to WRESTLE is just out of this world.

Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.

And to do it at an elite level is even more amazing. I mean, look what a car wreck did to Brian Pillman. He was never the same.

I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.

Eddy's the rare case who was able to come back from a serious drug problem and be better than he was when he went in, whereas guys like Bulldog, Marty Jannetty, Scott Hall, Roberts, Regal (to a lesser extent though) and Pillman never seemed to get to the other side.

You could also say Shawn Michaels was an exception, but that was also caused by a 4 year sabbatical and a major lifestyle/philosophical shift in the median.

Big Show spent his high school days living right by the town I live at today, Batesburg-Leesville, SC. He attended Wagner-Salley high school then got a sports scholarship to King Academy right near town here.
