With Simon Dean wrestling on Heat tonight, maybe they'll be ready to have him go back to being Nova on the PPV.

Add Johnny Swinger to the list of ECW guys currently in TNA. Also Psicosis but I think he's not under contract to them.

Sure would be nice to see Super Crazy again.

I can't see a lot of those guys being brought back for anymore than a hardcore clusterfuck. How many buys are Balls Mahoney and New Jack worth to todays fan let alone the fan of yesteryear?

Not that I'm one to read into things, but perhaps Paul Heyman's answer to this question...

So will Rhyno be allowed to defend the ECW title, since he is technically the last ECW champion?

...is the reason why...

Vince supposedly gave instructions to his creative team that no one tell Paul Heyman anything regarding the show. He is not to have a role on the PPV (as of now...).

I enjoyed the reigning ECW tag champs - Danny Doring and the "Angry Amish Roadkill" as they were both hugely over with the crowd. I was surprised at the time of the invasion neither of them got any work. Then again, putting them next to full height guys would show off their limitations, i.e., see what happened to Tazz.

I remember during the Invasion, Doring/Roadkill took on Guido/Mamaluke in a dark match before Smackdown at MSG and the crowd went apeshit for it, but the WWF didn't like it because the match was to ECW for their tastes.

Maybe this is all a swerve on the WWE's part. I mean Vince might be egomaniacal, but would he really go all out for an ECW ppv if he wasn't going to let Paul Heyman have some sort of imput?

This is Vince, we are talking about. If you want to see what he really thinks of other "companies", I give you the Invasion angle. Vince's ego is the size of Mars, he will do an ECW and when it bombs he will blame it on ECW being a dead product and if it does do well, Steph and crew will take all the credit. Its a win-win situation for him and he knows it.

I'm still scrathing my head that the MSG crowd, you know the home field crowd, ate it up, but it was too ECW for their liking. Man, Invasion never had a chance with Vince calling the shots.

Yeh hide this thread from Paulie now

Not having much to do with ECW here in Australia I wont comment specifically on the show, sounds a good idea though based on reactions.

As to the Cena/Orton swap? Will give Orton a reason to move further within the company and allow the Batista-HHH feud to carry on unfettered.

At the moment I feel as if Orton was pushed to dethrone Brock and this is a thank you(if it happens) and may set up a future Brock-Orton feud if Brock comes back to SD as well.

The options are limitless and at least we( the IWC) are talking about it positively and not negatively as we usually do

Given how Vince's opinion of Heyman seems to change on a monthly basis, for all we know, Paul might be back on the writing team by June. Let's not count our [Roadkill]CHICKENS!!![/Roadkill] until they hatch.

On the Orton/Cena swap....this sets up Orton as the big challenger for JBL, and I like PerthHeat's idea about Orton and Brock (if he comes back) feuding over who the next big thing really is. Cena on Smackdown is still kind of an untapped resource, since there are still a lot of potential matchups for him as champion (versus Angle, Eddie, Undertaker), but he'd be in a much higher profile slot on RAW, so maybe then he really would develop into the big star that WWE desires.

Personally, I think it'd be fun to have Batista win the belt at WrestleMania, and then move HHH over to Smackdown to let Dave and a newly-reheeled Orton fight over the title.

I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you? It just seems a little fishy that Heyman gets booted for supposedly "listening in unauthorized to a RAW conference call" according to The Torch, and that ECW is coming back. I think it's an elaborate work, and Heyman will come back as the rebel who tries to take over WWE with ECW.

Have any of you read 1wrestling.com lately? I know many of us ditched it when pwinsider.com come out, but Joey Styles gives regular updates on it. His latest comments sound like he's sucking up to get in on ECW. He apoligizes repeatedly to WWE for comments he's made in the past, and says for this thing to work, he needs to announce for ECW.

Man, I love Joey Styles, but that sounds a little sad.

At the same time, I totally agree and think that WWE should get Joey Styles to do this. However, IIRC, WWE offered him a spot several years ago and he turned it down. I don't know how highly WWE will reflect on that.

I don't think Paul listening into Raw conversation is a work, its a stupid paraonoid thing to do which makes me believe Paulie did it. Of course, I would too since backstabbing is a common thing outside of the ring. However, for this to work Paul has to be in it either in the creative or as an on-screen personality. He is the mind of ECW while Tazz and Tommy are the heart and soul. Not having any of those three of the event is doomed to failure.

I know Joey is kissing ass, but honestly there is no one better than Joey when it comes to ECW announcing. I know Vince is probably not going to shell the money out for Raven, Sandman and probably anybody not already in the WWE, but this he has to make the happen. JR and King would be horrible with since they can't even get their own product over, so a product that both guys can't stand is doomed to failure. Joey is an essential part of ECW, so I say pay him the few thousand dollars and be done with it.

If the reports are true and Steph is already sandbagging it, I would suggest against. The ECW fans are loyal, vocal and have no problems turning a Sunday night PPV into Tuesday night garbage pickup. I probably won't even use the current roster since most are used to the bland WWE style, so trying to do a new style is another bad sign. If they just get Sandman, Corino and a few others, unretire Tommy, Lance and Tazz and throw in Eddie, Rey, Dawn Marie and RVD it should be ok. I do sense that it will be a Raw PPV and minus Jericho and Benoit, I don't see it working out well.

Tazz is done wrestling. Period. He's got a bum neck on top of not being in the ring in years. Anything other than throwing a suplex or 2 would be out of the question, much less wrestling in an "ECW style" match.

So basically what you're saying there is that if this ECW tribute isn't done exactly 100% the way you think it should be, you're advocating that the fans should stage a riot.

No, I'm saying if the PPV is done poorly it wouldn't shock me to see the fans shit on it. I don't think the fans should roit, but if we are talking about a rapid ECW fanbase showing up, they have a history of throwing things into the ring ie foam heads and chairs. I'm a loyal ECW fan and if they put on something like SummerSlam which I wen to, I'd be pissed to, but to the extent throwing things, no. I did do the wave though which pissed Taker and Tazz off, so there are other ways to vent your fustruation or boredom. I am just saying if they half ass this it, it won't be the same cricket reaction you get in most places, it will be a very loud "Fuck you, Vince." through most of the night. If anything ECW fans are the most innovative chanters in the history of wrestling, so it doesn't go over well, they will hear it.

My feeling is that if they attempt to bring in Tazz, even if its anouncing, Tommy and Lance and put on a good show and don't make the main event JBL/Big Show or an event where the participants have nothing to do with ECW then they might as well scractch it. I just think people want one last time to have fun which has been lacking on all of the WWE PPVs for a long time. I paid $300 to see SummerSlam, never again. If I pay $100 which includes parking, gas, my ticket and maybe a T-Shirt then yes, I expect a good show and I'm going to be vocal if it isn't.

Just some notes from a far away land.

If the ECW was a northern based company , why did the DVD sell so well around the whole country? Was it because those mentioned from ECW are now with the WWE? I know I like to see those tv shows'' Where Did They Come From'' its voyeurism, and when you see a young Eddie doing amazing stuff and RVD you look at todays Eddie and RVD and wonder why they dont still do it. To me its about seeing where people are now in relation to then. Its also good to look back and remember someone and wonder ''where is he now''

As noted I havent seen ECW so cant comment on what and who too much, but where did all this love come from? All those who want a total ECW hardcore experience will be disappointed , and those who dont know too much will say''oh ECW is just like WWE'' . When your football stadiums get renamed due to new corporate sponsorship, do you expect a new oval, new team and beer dispensers? Because all you will get is the same stuff with a different brand name , and thats what I think will happen with the ''ECW'' branded show, more of the same WWE.

Just because it was a "northern based company" didn't mean that the rest of the country got left out. I know I grew to love ECW by watching it on the SUNSHINE network down here at I believe 3 AM. They came through Florida a great deal anyway, and I always went to a show when they were in town.

ECW may have been relatively small, but it got good run in the Apter mags. Word of mouth did a lot for them as well. Where I live we didn't get ECW on PPV until they debuted on TNN, but all it took was one guy in the office I worked in in 1997 having seen them on satellite and everybody who worked there wanted to see it just from how well that one guy built them up.

By now, even the casual fan who was living under a rock during ECW's peak time has heard of the company, knows the guys who came up through there, and if nothing else noticed the huge buzz around the DVD's release. People follow the crowd.

I'm not sure the matches themselves need to be ECW style although maybe a few DO, of course. More importantly to me is that there is a gpood storyline, some hair raising, spine tingling moments where ECW's past and its glory is re-lived, and ECW is not buried and made to look like shit.

But personally, as much as I want this to go down, I think they should have just dropped the whole thing because I assume, unless this is a work as far as Heyman and not bringing in a few people and making this ECW thing look strong, it will fail or just be lame.

Y'know, I can accuse the WWE (F) of many things, but that tribute to Davey Boy Smith was very, very well done. From the voiceover by Vince, to the heart-felt sentiment accompanying the vintage clips, the Fed hit my soft spot.
