I saw this idea in Scott Bowden's column today while browsing his archives: http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/wrestling/106.html

"ECW Hardcore Battle Royal: OK, before I get lambasted as being completely unoriginal, you just know WWE is going to have one match that plays on fansí nostalgia for the days when they really enjoyed the business. So, letís make it interesting, eh? Given the success of the recent ECW DVD (and the lack of direction for guys like RVD), a hardcore battle royal with the former Philly fedís workers seems a natural. (Which is probably why it wonít happen.) Have all the current WWE/former ECW guys involved, along with wrestlers like the Sandman, Terry Funk, Blue Meanie and Raven. And Jerry Lawler is forced to crown them (with makeshift thorns/barbwire) the King of Hardcore at the finish. Hey, it could be worse: Remember the Gimmick Battle Royal?"

Would anyone else agree that this isn't a half bad idea? It would get some underutilised wrestlers on the card and perhaps help promote the ECW PPV in June. It would also be a nice change of pace from the norm, since hardcore matches aren't featured that often. The winner could even be pushed with the new gimmick of King of Hardcore, leading towards the PPV where his title is up for grabs... or something.

Not a good idea. The premise of the ECW PPV is that for one night only, we can relive the golden days of the now-defunct organization. By starting it at Wrestlemania, and possibly spreading it out into the months leading to the summer PPV, it would make the event at Hammerstein all the more less-special.

Besides, while many say it wouldn't hurt to acknowledge the history of other feds, if there's one event that just oozes the embracing of WWF/WWE history all the way, it's Wrestlemania. A thrown-together ECW battle royal set in Los Angeles probably placed behind a handful of matches people would rather see is not a good way to rekindle that nostalgia.

I say lets do another gimmick battle royal. Just leave the Iron Shiek out of it this time. I liked the last one, I just hated the booking of it and the way it ended in like 3 mins.

Maybe they can put all the divas into some bra and panty battle royal or something.

You hated the BOOKING of the gimmick battle royal? Did you feel they should have kept Hillbilly Jim looking strong for his Backlash match with Austin?

Hahahahaha. It's funny, though; Iron Sheik got to win because he was the only one who wasn't in any shape to take a bump over the top rope.

On LOP someone has posted that the Carlito petition will lead to a ''Carlito Coalition'' V the ''Teddy Long Allstars'' as the gimmick Battle Royal.

I thought it was a great idea.

The only good thing about a battle royal is that it gives people a piece of the WrestleMania pie who wouldn't get it under any other circumstances.

They can have a bunkhouse brawl battle royal and have Paul London wear a suit of armor to the ring if they want, but if the ECW-by-name thing is going to be a one-time-only thing in July, there's no point having an alumni ball at WrestleMania.

Why does a hardcore battle royal have to be an *ECW* hardcore battle royal?

Take all the undercard guys on both brands. Have some prize, real or fake. Maybe a shot at the title of your choice at the next Raw/Smackdown. (Tag team guy wins, has to decide between a title shot with partner or going for solo gold. Well, it would work as an angle if there were tag teams you could tease breaking up.) Announce a battle royal. Change it to a hardcore battle royal. Have some Smackdown guys run in on Raw to take out the favorites on that side. Have the Raw guys return the favor later in the week.

Or maybe the ability to switch brands is what is up for grabs. Carlito wants it badly to get away from Teddy. Other disgruntled people enter. Bischoff sends in hired goons to keep certain people from escaping.

But enough with the fantasy booking. I just don't get the ECW love. An ECW reunion PPV has to be the thing in wrestling I am least looking forward to (but then, I was always a WCW mark).

Exactly. Don't just stick the "ECW" tag onto everything because they own the rights.

I hated how they gave the whole match like 5 mins total and they they booked the Shiek to win cause he was too old to go over the top rope without killing himself. I didnt like how they had non wrestlers in it (brother love). I loved the novelty of it, but I just wish it was done a little bit better.

If we're gonna have a hardcore battle royal, let's bring in Norman Smiley! (That's pronounced "smi-LAY" to you humanoids.)

No way...the Big Wiggle is too high of a workrate for the WWE right now.

Hey the whole Newblood vs. Millionares could have really kicked ass. Of course the old guys would actually have to have lost half the matches and sold for the young guys. I really wanted to watch Kidman pin Hogan.
