Couldn't you have posted this in that thread?

You think WWE now is bad? Some of us had to live through 1993-1996!

It's a good thing I'm not a mod, cuz I'd be banning people left and right.

Oh yeah well I would ban a son of a bitch each day until they were all dead, starting with KEN GRIFFEY 79 HIMSELF, OR MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE. Then Wienersboard could be deep dark tomb that stood a both testament and warning to the dangers of overwhelming gayness.

EAT IT

Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Juventud Guerrera 3/9/96 was an exciting bout.

If you post a long quote (off the message directly before you, even) to make a one word reply again, so help me, I'm turning this car around and we're all going home.

LET'S START THIS OVER AGAIN.

reddragon: I like ECW. I'd like to buy some tapes. What do you suggest?

Me: I own no ECW, but if I wanted to, I'd probably try to get Barely Legal, for the historical reasons if not the 6 man Michinoku Pro tag.

But besides that, I'd think I'd go towards comps of people/stuff I like rather than indivudal shows. PPVs were hit or miss (the one in Dayton was good and actually I may have had a tape of that at some point). But then I'm unaware of a great much of the TV, so there may be a few really good shows there.

"Heat Wave" 98 and "Anarchy Rulez" 99 won Best PPV those respective years. But I agree with thecubsfan, it'd be better, if possible, to get your comp on. Then you can get theoretically get some sampling of Guerrero/Malenko, Rey/Psicosis, Rey/Juvy, RVD/Lynn, Mike Awesome/Masato Tanaka, Tajiri/Super Crazy, etc. (all of whom had many many matches against each other) in one place. Does such a tape exist? I don't ... know.

Barely Legal 1997 was the best PPV ECW put out. There might be some copies of the DVD still available at your local video store, so that shouldn't be too hard to come by.

However, the rest of the PPVs never really hit that peak again. Heat Wave 1998 and Anarchy Rulz 1999 were really good. I, personally, was a fan of Hardcore Heaven 2000 and Anarchy Rulz 2000, but I've also heard many others who didn't like those shows, so your mileage may vary.

Overall, I'd try and get my hands on some ECW shows from 1995, because THAT was the peak year for ECW, both creatively and in the ring. RF Video owns most of these shows, but you can probably find them cheaper through other video dealers if you look hard enough.

I personally recommend checking out November to Remember 1995 and Gangsta's Paradise 1995, although the whole year was just an endless amount of greatness.

Get the ECW Compilation DVD's off Amazon or one of the other sites that sell DVD's.

Path Of Destruction is the best.
-Chris Jericho v Pitbull #2 v Shane Douglas v Too Cold Scorpio for the TV Title
-RVD vs Bam Bam Bigelow for the TV Title
-Sabu vs Sandman - Stairway To Hell
-Ian v Axl Rotten - Taipei Death Match
-Jerry Lynn v Tajiri v Super Crazzy
-Dean Malenko v Eddy Guerrero Farewell Match
-Psicosis v Rey Mysterio Jr

It also has a couple classic promos from Steve Austin, Stevie Richards, Pitbulls, Eliminators, and some others.

The others are Extreme Evolution and Deep Impact. This is probably the best way to get the feel of ECW. Extreme bloody matches, great wrestling matches and great Cruiserweight action.

Also on this DVD is an easter egg of the CLASSIC Brian Pillman interview, we're he calls all of the fans in the ECW Arena "smart marks". This is one of my favorite pro-wrestling segments of all time, and worth the price of this DVD alone.
