Test/Mike Knox/Matt Striker vs. Sabu/Tommy Dreamer/Sandman
This match is designed to further the Sandman/Striker feud while giving Test and Sabu face time. It's not so fun to watch; Sandman is taken away with injuries only to come back to the match to clear house with the cane. But Striker runs off before taking a licking. Knox has managed to degrade since his debut in this series. His swank facebuster is but a memory, and he's reduced to legdrops as his main offense. I just don't find it impressive to see a 260-lb guy using a flying legdrop. Tommy Dreamer is there to get beat up for five minutes.

Kevin Thorn (with Ariel) vs. Balls Mahoney (with Francine
This feud is awfully one-sided. Ariel again wears that stunning hooded cape. And here's another thing about her, she's not built like the typical WWE diva. She's what we used to call voluptuous. It's almost a bad idea for her to wear that bikini; it doesn't flatter her backsaide and hips at all, but she's working the vampire gimmick to the hilt. Francine walks out with Balls, and you'd think her appearance would help him. Nope, she gets into a catfight (Joey screeches the play-by-play), and Thorn hits a distracted Balls with the Razor's Edge for the clean pin. It's time to move these guys to other stories.

CM Punk vs. Shannon Moore
Another repeat match for Punk, and another quick loss for Moore. Again I ask you: Why doesn't the guy in the vice go for Punk's eyes? They're right there. And it would have worked especially well tonight after Moore had worked the eyes earlier. Moore does manage to counter the bulldog, but only after botching the turnbuckle-knee spot. The impending Knox/Punk feud is only bearable if Knox can again display some more moves.

RVD vs. King Booker (with Queen Sharmell)
Not a bad little match at all. They judiciously used the chair to accent the flow instead of turning this into a full-on prop match. Hardcore Holly runs in to bash RVD, and Booker pins right after the ref tells them to call it a night. No Big Show tonight, and his presence wasn't missed. If anything, the total absence of the Heyman/Show angle allowed the other performers to take over, making for a breezier episode. Booker, however, carried the show with his backstage skits, encountering the ECW extremists. He is nailing this gimmick as well as JBL did his.

Last night was my first time seeing C.M. Punk wrestle. It was kinda weird to actually *hear* someone say his name after only reading it all this time. I dont like or dislike him in eaither direction, but I completely failed to see the big deal about him. His look, his moves, they all looked completely blablawhateverboring to me. He didnt do anything last night to separate himself from your average skinny WWE jobber. Not one thing.

Did he have an off night, or am I missing something?

They didn't click last night. Punk had trouble holding Moore in the surfboard and quickly changed to the chinlock variant. Also Moore didn't hit the turnbuckle right and squelched Punk's running knee strike, one of his bigger moves. We didn't see his Tarantula variation, and he's given up working the arm at all before locking in the Anaconda Vice.

Yeah, Punk was a bit off last night. I think a Knox feud will be good as Knox is capable in the ring and has proven he can sell well (when having chairs tossed in his face, at least.)

A whatever show. The six man was okay and Striker is doing a good job.

Thorn and Ariel have star written all over them and the main furthered the Holly/Van Dam. If anything, that show really got Booker over as a big deal (rare for an SD guy.) He was solid as all get out. "Do you want to joust with me," classic.

I will says shame on you, two times to Styles for mentioning that Booker/Van Dam had a 'brief partnership' but didn't mention that they were tag champs. This is especially egregious as it seemed that the performers were playing up their recognition in their backstage meeting.

The commentary continues to be mediocre and sub-TNA.

I don't think Punk is all that great. I've seen all his ECW matches, and unless the company has him holding something back, I don't know what all the fuss has been about. Frankly, I'm still hoping to see more of CW Anderson (who was Punk's opponant a few weeks ago) rather than more of Punk.

I'm not saying he's that great, but how do you think he made his reputation, in four minutes matches against Justin Credible and Shannon Moore, or in twenty-plus minute matches working Indyfied All-Japan style against some of the best workers not in WWE (and Jamie Noble) (many of whom would be considered a lot better at this point than WWE's broken down and depthless roster).

I guess I should have said I've only seen his ECW matches, but what I was getting at was that if this is all the company is going to let him do, then I don't really have any reason to get into him.

The hope for me, as a huge Punk fan, is that he can bust into the upper card, where the workers get more mic time, more ring time, and more freedom in how they lay out their matches. There is no worker in the world who can be as awesome as the best guys in the world if they get 4 minutes against Shannon Moore and are under implied orders not to do anything too crazy in their match and 30 seconds of time on the mic, 20 of which is for having to repeat the basic character info.

What I don't understand is why I like Thorn so much but hated Mordecai so much. Is it the addition of Ariel? Is it losing the dorky white outfit? It it the swank off-the-ropes stunner? Anyone else feel the same way?

It's weird how a simple gimmick change (almost more of a "tweak," really) can make or break a guy.

Also: yeah, it's hard to figure where Moore goes from here. Maybe he'll hire some bully to kick Punk's ass.

I wouldnt say Ariel shouldnt wear that outfit. Its nice for us guys who prefer a 'thicker' woman!

As for the announce team being sub TNA, at least Taz isnt SCREAMING ala Don West the entire time.

I still think Ariel is hot, but I was really surprised when her corset thingy rode up on her a couple times and she had quite the belly on her.

With the way the WWE is about their diva's, I'm amazed that Vince doesn't have her starving herself or something.

it's mostly the attire and the way they act around him.
The whole white priest kinda thing with the stupid staff looked so ridiculous.
yes, even more ridiculous than acting like a vampire.

Also, because he got a big build-up and only crushed cruiserweights (because of the moves) he came across as extremely..lame.

I think Matt Striker has to be one of the most underrated guys. He is such a great chicken-shit heel. His ringwork is average, but just his facial expressions & actions are freaking great.

And I'm enjoying Test & Hardcore Holly more than I ever have.

I'm not saying TNA's commentary is good by any stretch. But at least Tenay and West oversell everything and rant and rave the entire time. Listening to Tazz and Styles is like listening to how Josh and whomever used to commentate Velocity. It's very casual and they joke around but they never seem to SELL anything going on. Tazz especially has really been exposed since leaving SD. He had a lot more chemistry with Cole then he does with Styles. His commentary is pedestrian with the lame jokes and the "rocket bustah's and "holy smokes" and the malaprops. They're not showing a lot of passion out there is my point. Who are they getting over? I mean, they talk about CM Punk's muay thai background, but then have no clue what he's doing with his hands. CW Anderson had a 'cup of coffee' in ECW, says Styles. It's some serious lack of attention they're showing and I honestly don't think you can blame production on it. Despite whatever haranguing they've gotten about changing their styles, they're not even doing a good job as SE storytellers. And as Ross has taught us and JBL is still teaching us that it's possible to have passion even when a product is less than superlative.

Styles was better this week, but on the whole he sounds like he could care less.
