The Quick and Dirty for WWE ECW from 1.20.09, the third best and worst show on TV this past year, according to the Observer.

- The show opens with a video package for YOUR new ECW Champ, Jack Swagger.

- T-Grish is in the ring with Matt Hardy. The crowd is hot for Matt. We get a review of Jeff getting blown up, but Matt says he's home recovering from first-degree burns. Matt doesn't want to talk about it, so we change subjects to Swagger. Matt gives credit where credit is due, but Swagger STILL interrupts just to be a dick. Jack tells Matt that if he tries to take the ECW belt back from him then Jeff won't be the only Hardy going down in flames. That's too personal, so Matt decks him. Swagger bails as refs restrain Matt.

Match 1: Ricky Ortiz over Adam Evans via the Big O in about 2 minutes. It was all Ortiz on the offense, so this sucked. And what the hell is up with a wrestler using a splash as a finisher in 2009? It's not like Ortiz weighs 400 lbs. or something. Post match, Ortiz wants the crowd to "Rally Up." Yeah, good luck with that.

- Backstage, Tommy Dreamer talks to Teddy Long. Long tells him there was no need to put his career on the line. Paul Burchill interrupts because he is more important than "a career not worth saving. " Dreamer nearly kicks his ass, but Teddy breaks that up. Burchill wants Gabe tonight, but Long gives him an opponent of his choosing instead, leading to...

Match 2: The Boogeyman over Paul Burchill by DQ after Katie Lea-ference in about 2 minutes. It was terrible, but you can't expect much more from Boogeyman. Postmatch, he tries to feed Katie some worms, but Paul saves her. He leaves the worms on the announcer table for Matt Striker. I'd love it if Striker just flipped one day and killed him for that.

- Lots of video packages hyping the Rumble air.

Fatal Four-Way: John Morrison over The Miz, Finlay, and Mark Henry when he pinned Miz in about 10 minutes. The story was there, but this match had no flow. I'm not crazy about the idea to split up Miz and Morrison either, which is where some of the recent events are pointing.

- End Show.

Wrestling Counter: 14 minutes.

** Terrible show, like a mini-edition of Impact. Too many videos and backstage skits, too little wrestling. It didn't do much for the Rumble, either, or really advance any storylines. Plus, Ricky Ortiz AND Boogeyman in squashes on the same show? Yuck.

Sad thing though is the general audience appeal for the total bizarreness character is still there. Reminds me of something from the Jake Roberts documentary video of the line where there talking about the snake. "You can just feel people squirming in there seats." Even being smark I occasionally still squirm. Now, go enjoy your nightcrawlers everyone. YUM! *gag*

Matt Stirker gets the line of the night explaining both male and female parts for sex organs of a worm.

Matt Striker wins again for comparing the Burchills to Quicksilver & the Scarlet Witch. (Bonus points if it was a reference to the Burchills' dropped incestuous relationship, a la the Ultimates' Pietro & Wanda.)

I don't like the Boogeyman but I can understand how kids would like him. Rickey Ortiz though I don't understand. He is boring, stale, and a bad wrestler. His gimmick would have been a JTTS in 1986 but he does seem to have some fans.

Wouldn't be suprised if this was the start of a Ricky O heel turn. Of course, he'd still be Ricky Atlas Dabone Ortiz, and thus still suck.

For a while there ECW was one of my favorite shows to watch, but lately with all the Boogeyman and Burchill appearances it's sort of gone downhill in the undercard. Here's hoping Evan Bourne is healed up soon, maybe a suprise Rumble entrant. I think a Bourne/SWAGGUH title feud would be pretty fun.

He's old-school WWF. The towel gesture, the finisher, the three-point shoulder block -- he's a throwback to when a former NFL player trying a wrestling career was a big deal (see Mongo, Kevin Greene, Marcus Cor Von).

He makes me miss Cor Von even more, honestly.

This should be a fun show to look at, if only to see a few familiar faces for the last time before the suspensions kick in. Once again, through the magic of TiVo...
