The Quick and Dirty for ECW 01.06.09.

Match 1: Jack Swagger over Finlay via Gutwrench Powerbomb in about 15 mins. This was a good match to open the show, as Finlay and Swagger have a nice chemistry in the ring and this was given some time to develop.

- Backstage, Alicia Fox and DJ Gabriel dance around. Gabe needs to learn to dance, and soon.

- Elsewhere, Jack Swagger (Thwagger?) demands to know when he gets his title shot. Teddy Long says it'll be next week. Swagger promises to be the new face of ECW.

Match 2: Katie Lea Burchill over Alicia Fox via knee to the head in about 2 mins. It was going along pretty fine until the abrupt end. Katie Lea needs to wrestle more.

Match 3: The Boogeyman over Brett Barnes via Pumphandle Slam in about 2 mins. Moving right along...

Non-Title: Matt Hardy over Mark Henry via Twist of Fate in about 11 mins. This was far better than last week's effort, and as a result both guys got to look good.

- End show.

Wrestling Counter: 29 minutes.

** A good rebound show after last week's disaster. The matchups are beginning to get a little redundant, though, so I hope the Hardy-Swagger feud can give us something new to care about. If nothing else, there's always Matt Striker.

They must expand the title picture. Hardy/Henry was perfectly acceptable, but Henry can't offer any more to the main event.

Question: Does Boogeyman need an angle? Would you risk putting him in one given his injury history? He looks like a monster, he's spooky, and he puts worms in his opponents' mouths. Shouldn't he just be a sideshow attraction for the WWE?

Good show, I thought. That was actually the best of the Hardy/Henry matches out of what I've seen, with a conclusive pin-fall to boot. The Swagger/Finlay match was great. If you want to build up a young guy as a serious contender, that's the way to do it. Busting Finlay open like that really made Swagger look like a genuine threat to the title.

Did Finlay help train Swagger? I ask because at times Swagger's punches and kicks looked similar to Fit's.
ECW isn't always good but it is still more consistent than the other wrestling shows. They badly need Bourne back though. Hardy vs. Henry is a pretty good feud but way overplayed.

This was an awesome show. Swagger is the future for sure. His match vs Finlay was just great. DJ Gabriel is funny and I am liking him a lot more than I thought, and Alicia Fox is pretty talented from what I saw in FCW. I am pretty sure that was the blowoff for Henry/Matthew, and thank god for that.

No way in hell. But he doesn't get any, either. Sure, he occasionally messes with certain heels who are over, but it is in no way something that can be called a sustainable angle. Nor is he given the sniff of any belt. I remember a couple of years ago he feuded with Booker T and JBL, and got victories over both, but even those stories did not go on for too long. And that's how it should be.

That is, of course, because the WWE insists upon having him around. I would've gotten rid of his ugly, no-talent ass long ago.

Boogeyman? No Talent? Surely you jest. Being able to pop a crowd and being able to sell merch, and being able to wrestle, even if it is an oddball style is what the WWE is looking for.

Title for him? No way, but a good feud could be booked, and if he's injury prone, that makes your heel a bad ass if they can play the "he attacked him" card.

I'm betting we'll see Henry interfere in the match next week since Swagger interfered in his match with Hardy, maybe setting up a 3-way for the next week or the Rumble. I'd be fine with that, but I'd sort of like to see Henry in the Rumble.

I gotta call foul on "being able to wrestle." The Boogeyman cannot wrestle. I mean, the E doesn't trust him to have a match longer than 5 minutes on PPV. That's Divas level right there, man. In fact, apart from Maria, Kelly Kelly, and the Bella Twins, I really can't think of any Divas who are worse than the Boogeyman in terms of in-ring talent.

Maria and Kelly are better than Boogeyman.

Do people actually buy Boogeyman merchandise? I would doubt it unless there are gummy worms.

If they aren't already doing this, Vince owes you a small pile of cash.

Boogey needs one good run with Santino.

Since we're on the topic of Boogeyman ... I can't remember for sure, but it he the guy who showed up for Tough Enough tryouts and got tossed for being too old and lying about it on his application? I seem to have a vague recollection of him being the same guy, but I'm not 100% sure.

If so, would that make him the third-most successful Tough Enough alum, behind Johnny Nitro and Josh Matthews?

Yes.

Justin's going to nail this, but I'm gonna put the Miz & Matt Morgan between Nitro & Matthews.

Also, I think both Milena & ODB applied.

(oops)

Melina was on one of the casting specials; I think we had a thread here not long ago with a still from that. Something like that with ODB as well.

Ooh, this is fun.

1. John Morrison

2. Miz - who would've thought that by far the second most successful TE winner would come from by far the worst season?

large gap

3. Matt Morgan - five year career and counting, even if just a fraction of it was on the WWE main roster.

4. Boogeyman - I'll count him and not Melina since he was signed out of the casting special, whereas she had to go change her body first. Two of the top four are from TE4? Plus Dan Rodimer was planned to get a big push as part of Rated RKO before they gave up on him.

5. Maven - never lived up to his initial overness, but had 3.5 years on TV.

6. Nick Mitchell - I mean, he did headline a PPV, even if he was the Spirit Squadder who never wrestled.

7. Josh Mathews - didn't he beat Orlando Jordan?

8. Chris Nowinski - he was good, but he was only around for a year. probably could've at least matched Maven if he hadn't gotten hurt. (Matt Cappotelli would almost certainly have gotten a call-up at some point too, but he's too small to assume he had that much of a shot.)

9. Jackie Gayda - two years in WWE, half a year in TNA, married a wrestler.

10. Nidia - two years on TV. really, she and Noble were a better act than Rico & Jackie

hon. mention Taylor Matheny if only because I love her and because she's allegedly married Kendrick.

DIVA SEARCH

1. Maria
2. Michelle
3. Candice (should we rate her based on 2007 or present?)
4. Maryse
5. Ashley (obviously terrible, but edges Christy despite almost identical credentials because London&Kendrick are better than Rock&Rave)

Ah, but he lost to Puder. He who loses the Dixie Dogfight cannot win the TE.

Aw curses, I meant contestant because I was going to write an amazing joke about how Puder's greatest achievement in the business was becoming Dave Meltzer's San Jose galpal.
