| #1 Posted on 6.12.06 0840.59 | Instant Rating: 6.19 | The show starts with Paul's post-PPV eulogy for Show's reign and he walks away, tears on his cheeks. I'm not sure Paul was born to do anything else but deliver wrestling monologues. He's the Orson Welles of wrestling -- genius-level storyteller with a knack for pissing off guys with money. This hyperbole was brought to you by Very Little Sleep.
CM Punk/RVD vs. Hardcore Holly/Test -- For two weeks now we've seen Punk pursue Test outside the ring. This time Test is pounding away on RVD, and Punk walks around to back him up. And Test DOES. Test has him by about six inches, 50 pounds, and 5 false teeth. But Punk makes him retreat. Madness. It's a blah match. RVD hot tags Punk who cleans house (more madness) and slaps on the Vice to Holly. The Heyman Police break up the match. Sabu comes in to chase one away with chairshots (and an inexplicable punch to the helmet), and the three then destroy the remaining guard with chairs, the vice, the frogsplash, and the Arabian facebuster. He remains masked however. If Paul's gone, who ordered them to run out there? Colonel Jessup?
Dreamer vs. Daivari -- the announcers have no faith that Tommy can win given his stage chokeslam by Khali on Sunday. But win he does and cleanly. Then Khali chokeslams him on a chair.
Ariel vs. Kelly -- A short, short catfight is won by Kelly with a roll up. Knox enters the ring with flowers and begs her to forgive him for leaving her in the mixed tag match at the PPV. Kelly finally relents and takes his hand. He rises and verbally trashes her, walks off, turns around, and throws the roses in her face. Then he slaps on the twisting Downward Spiral. Tazz is so outraged by his behavior that he stalks to the ring well after all this takes place.
ECW champ Lashley vs. Big Show -- Big Show works the body with bear hugs and multiple steps on Lashley's back. Lashley tries a few power moves but Show shrugs him off. Running shoulder tackles don't help either. Finally, Lashley picks up Show for what looks to be an Oklahoma Slam, but Show rolls off his shoulder. Some more power moves leads to Lashley heaving up Show, holding him up for a few seconds, and slamming him down for the pin. Maybe as impressive as Lesnar giving Rikishi the F5 when the former made his first few appearances in the WWE. Sure, Lesnar also F5'd Show (and so did the big stuttering guy on SmackDown) and Cena's FU'd Show, but Lashley scooped show and held him at a 40-degree angle before dropping him. Show wasn't draped across his shoulders. I know almost nothing about Bobby as I don't catch SmackDown but rarely, and what little I've seen suggests he can punch, clothesline, spear, and slam. And that's about it.
No clue about new directions without Heyman, but one wonders (OK, *I* wonder) if Bischoff will get the ECW GM position soon.
EDIT: I always forget that $*@# logo.

In the E, Why does it always end with the guy powerbombing the girl? or the girl elbowing the guy. Let it end with him being a broken, sad man. Then he gets revenge by getting with a new girl and someone not even sexy, like Sabu, steals her. Vince should punish Sabu by making him show emotion.

Pretty sickening show. Dreamer vs. Great Khali is gonna be one for the fast forward button. Poor Tommy. There's no upside for anyone working a program with Khali. He has to bump hard to make Khali look remotely competent and Khali in turn won't do anything to make Dreamer look good. Is there any real chance Dreamer will win this feud? Unlikely.
CM Punk, RVD, and Sabu together is kind of neat, except for the stigma that these are three guys Vince McMahon doesn't think are worthy to main event ECW instead of Lashley.
The main event was atrocious. Big Show gets pinned by a bodyslam. Not a powerslam, a bodyslam. The former ECW, WWE and WCW World Champion can't take the most elementary offensive move in wrestling.
I was looking at the 2007 listing of events and One Night Stand is currently scheduled for Hammerstein Ballroom in June. That will have to be canceled or moved. If not, this product in that facility would take unbelievable balls of steel.

If we can accept Cena's FU finisher ...
Oh, wait, we don't.
It's a spot meant to get over Lashley as the new force in the roster. And it is more impressive than Show giving it up to another spear. But I'd like to see Show start his hiatus (as WWE.com reports he's doing) by going out to a flashier move.
Now I wonder who becomes Lashley's top contender. Holly, the guy CM Punk almost beat single-handedly? Test, the other main-event strongman who's been pummeled by Punk? I'm not yet enthused by Lashley's prospects as a champ -- given his contenders and ringwork -- so far. But with Heyman gone and presumably taking his evil GM machinations with him, the show has no dominant angle to follow.

Unfortunately, though, it'll be the wrestlers in the ring working their asses off that will be shit on, not the people (bookers, Vince) who put them in that position.

A lot can happen between now and next June. Both good and bad. If it's good, you can see some great wrestling. If it's bad, the crowd response will be worth the price of the PPV alone.

Maybe because it would be more effective than complaining on some internet message board? Or at least more effective than buying tickets to shows hoping they somehow magically stop sucking ass.

| #14 Posted on 8.12.06 0437.57 | Instant Rating: 9.00 | Or-and here's a crazy notion-you could just not buy a ticket at all, and stop funding a product that you clearly vehemently hate! Anyone who buys a ticket for the sole purpose of shitting on the show is foolish, and deserves to have a bad show put on for them. The "buying in advance" thing certainly wouldn't make sense for One Night Stand '07, because people will have had plenty of time to see what kind of brand ECW has become.
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow
