This probably won't interest anyone but me, but I need somewhere to celebrate the fact that my Reading Royals knocked off the #1-seed Wheeling Nailers last night, eliminating them from the playoffs and moving on to face Peoria in the second round.

(insert happy dance here)

Anyone else got a horse in this race?

Congrats to the Royals - quite the Cinderella run for them so far - only the Alaska Aces had fewer regular season points of the teams that are still alive. Too bad the Aces now have to face my Idaho Steelheads in the next round.

The Royals had a tough division. The third-place team (Peoria) would've won two of the other three divisions, and the fourth-place team was only two points behind that. Reading was lucky to have the play-in game due to the oversized division, of course, but a team that was last each of its first two years needs a break now and then.

I think that Peoria's a better match for Reading than Atlantic City would've been; similar records, but the Bullies simply owned the Royals this year.

It seems unusual to have baseball tickets for Friday and Monday followed by hockey tickets for Wednesday and (if needed) Thursday...

After years of dominating the WCHL, it's humbling to be out already.

Game Winning Goal
Tuesday, April 6 Alaska 4 at San Diego 2 1,836 Bret DeCecco

The concept of a team from Alaska playing hockey against a team from San Diego makes me head spin.

Could be worse... if Alaska keeps winning, they could potentially face Louisiana in the conference finals and Florida in the Kelly Cup finals. Not exactly natural rivalries.

As it happens, Alaska didn't keep winning; they got eliminated by Idaho.

But the Reading Royals _did_ keep winning, as they eliminated Peoria tonight to win the Northern Division Finals.

We're down to Florida/Reading and Idaho/winner of the Gwinnett/Louisiana series. Should be an interesting ride.

Hopefully he'll start(or get some time) tomorrow night, as I'm going to the Saddledome to see my hometown Leafs take on my new home's Flames. The way both teams have been playing recently, this game could really stink out the joint.
