Lots of big info coming out today. Hard to keep up but a few fun points I've read:

-The Wii controller gets an add-on for true 1:1 motion control in games.

-Totally redesigned 360 Dashboard. Avatars for in game use, Netflix integration, more chat setups, etc.

-Final Fantasy XIII no longer Sony exclusive, will launch on 360 the same day as the PS3.

-The original Banjoe Kazooie will be remade for Xbox Live, with better graphics and they will actually put in the kind of stuff we were supposed to have originally in that you can unlock things in the game that will impact what you can do in the brand new BK game Nuts and Bolts.

Edit: more on the 360 changes

- 8 person party chat, instead of the old one on one only chat. You can stay with that group from game to game and even watch say a Netflix movie together. Kinda strange, but ok.

- Copy games to the hard drive and play them from there. A feature the PS3 already has, but it's a very nice change.

-purchase stuff from the Marketplace on xbox.com and it will download to your system.

I am SO there! And if you're particularly attached to your main Rock Band setlist, your Rock Band disc can be integrated into Rock Band 2 for less than five bucks!

Just...so...much...awesomeness...

EDIT: Not to be outdone, here's Guitar Hero, who are offering DLC in the form of NEW REM tracks and the new METALLICA (!) album, Death Magnetic! On top of that, they have locked up two bands exclusively: The Eagles and Van Halen! I...only...have...so much...MONEY...to give!

That's completely unfair! PUSA had a total of five strings between the two guitars!

Also, there's a lot of repetition between this and the previous Guitar Heroes.

Wow. Losing FF as an exclusive is a huge loss for Sony. Hopefully we continue to see this trend to less exclusives, as it can only help the consumer.

This is an interesting case, because it's still a PS3 exclusive in Japan. But it's on both consoles here in the U.S., which is actually a brilliant business move. Might as well have it ready for the multitude of 360 owners here in America, as opposed to Japan, where 360's are collecting dust on store shelves.

Netflix on the 360 will cost $9/month ($108/year) on top of your gold membership (for $158/year if you don't already pay for it)

I think they're betting on Star Ocean moving at least a few units. If it fails, look for a Chrono game in 2010.

Heh, as in "boy I'm glad I don't need to buy a PS3"? Kind of makes me think of how I couldn't find a copy of GTA IV anywhere for the 360, but there were TONS for the PS3. I'd say if game sales keep up like that, the PS3's price may drop considerably, making it easier to buy. Now that's helpful for consumers.

And as long as Nintendo has a system on the market, Zelda, Mario, and Metroid will be exclusive.

And today's kinda suprising news thus far...

"Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" for the DS

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6193924.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;1

And speaking of price cuts for the PS3, an 80GB model this September for $399 was just announced.

As far as Rock Band goes, there's something that's always confused me. Looking at that setlist for the sequel, there's at least 3 or 4 songs that have a prominent double kick drum line. How is that feasible on the Rock Band drum kit? Could someone explain that to me please? I would investigate further myself, but it hasn't been released on PS3 over here yet...

Yeah, I watched the Sony press conference, and while some of the footage was neat, I kept hearing the same thing over and over again; PS2 owners haven't bought PS3s yet. When you consider most PS2 owners paid $200 or less for their systems (A small percentage purchased them when they were more than that), why is $400 (okay, I'm estimating; in Virginia after taxes it'd be $418.95) supposed to be any kind of bargain? Especially when you consider an XBOX360 with smaller space (even I'm nowhere near filling up 20GB of memory and I've downloaded lots for Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Oblivion, and had to install for GTA IV and Lost Odyssey) is about a hundred dollars cheaper.

Nintendo hasn't announced much, and hasn't had to. When your system is still consistently sold out in stores for more than a year after launch, you just sort of grin that you're making a ton of money by simply selling a fun product at a cheaper price.

*Not to add another post to the thread, but since you posted while I was typing, there are a few Grateful Dead songs on XBOX Marketplace, and they had two complete drum sets. I'm sure they'll work it around with the double bass.

I guess the big news from the Sony bit is PS3 users can rent/buy movies and TV shows starting tomorrow. They're transferable to your PSP, if you have a PSP. It seems nice but nothing I'm too hyper about. Did they ever actually mention the rental details? I was listing for it and didn't hear anything.

The better news would've been keeping the PS3 at 40 GB and cutting the price - maybe if/after the video download takes hold, that extra 40 GB space will make a difference, but I think anyone who's focused on hard disk space at this point is capable of finding their own ways of adding on.

I was kinda unimpressed by the DC game. Characters looked a little stiff, and the settings looked empty and quiet. Maybe it's just early and things will change. It did seem like you could play as the DC characters after all.

I was very confused if what was shown for the last game - MAG, hyped as up to 256 players online in 8 man units - was supposed to be game video or pre-rendered intro stuff. They were hyping how it was pushing the limits of the system and something that could only be done on PS3, but everything looked pre-rendered and not gameplay-ish.

Man, was I unimpressed by both Nintendo and Sony. Granted, they both had a tough act to follow, but they just didn't have much to offer at all. Just completely disappointed all around. Not a notable announcement in the bunch.

Well, except for this one game Sony has lined up. Something called "God...something-or-other".

Yeah Sony and Nintendo didn't show much today. The MAG game might be cool, but I'm just not sure. Need more info.

As for God of War, everyone already knew that was coming so no big suprise. Really more of a disappointment that no gameplay was shown and no release date given. Which means a very long wait.

Ah, E3, my second favorite time of year. I'm excited to see what new fun things are coming for the video game world.

I can only imagine that the camera and the GPS add-on for the PSP will be officially announced this week.

On a side note, wasn't E3 cancelled...or wasn't that the rumour?

E3 became a trade-only show, essentially making it for insiders only, as opposed to every Gamestop employee and their mothers. So the E3 as we knew it is dead, but the show itself it still around.

Besides all that, they're still making games for the PS2, and while they're not A-list titles some of them are pretty good. I've picked up four new games for the PS2 in the last year, and I'll probably pick up Persona 4 when it comes out in December.
