I love this time of year. It's time for E3 and we start off with the Microsoft press conference. Here are the various news and notes from the House that Bill Gates Built.

-We start this party off with The Beatles! Harmonix is there with Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison, Giles Martin, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr to talk about Rock Band: The Beatles. The visuals are as trippy as you'd expect from The Beatles. All music tracks have been remastered. Tracks revealed include:
1) I Saw Her Standing There
2) I Want to Hold Your Hand
3) I Feel Fine
4) Day Tripper
5) Taxman
6) I Am The Walrus
7) Back in the USSR
8) Octopus's Garden
9) Here Comes The Sun
10) Get Back
Then comes the iffy news. "All You Need Is Love" will be available exclusively as an Xbox LIVE download, with proceeds going to charity. That's nice and all, but you're seriously telling me THAT song isn't available out of the box? Also, Abbey Road will be available as a downloadable album, which is...curious, considering a lot of that album is already on the disc.

-Topic shifts to Modern Warfare 2. Downloadable map packs will be available on Xbox LIVE before they hit anywhere else.

-Final Fantasy XIII is confirmed for a Spring 2010 release.

-Epic Games (Gears of War) confirms a new title for the Xbox LIVE Arcade. Called "Shadow Cabinet", the game is a mix of elements between Contra and Super Metroid. Now there's a good mashup of games! That game hits this summer.

-Here's a legit shocker. Left 4 Dead 2 is already in the works...and will hit shelves on November 17! This installment will offer a lot of melee combat options.

-After rounds of denials and rumors, Crackdown 2 has been confirmed with a slightly more realistic graphic style. No release date announced...yet.

-Splinter Cell: Conviction trailer is shown. Sam Fisher is hunted by his own organization. This looks a lot like Sam Fisher transforming into Jack Bauer. It still looks like a winner. It hits stores this fall.

-Forza Motorsport 3 will hit store shelves in October. This sequel will feature 400 car manufacturers and the ability to upload HD clips. Sweeeeet.

-A trailer for Halo: ODST is shown, but the big news is the annoucement of Halo: Reach Falls for 2010. Those who buy Halo: ODST will get into the multiplayer beta for Halo: Reach Falls. Halo: ODST will be available on September 22.

-Alan Wake was shown, though I had to be refreshed on what it was. It's a third-person action title with real-time narration, which is a nice touch. The game looks to be episodic, so it'll be hanging around a while. The game (first episode?) hits in Spring 2010.

Now come the Xbox LIVE general announcements...

-The Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace will be relaunched as Zune Video with the ability to stream 1080p videos.

-Last.fm will be available for Xbox LIVE Gold members at no additional charge later this year.

-Netflix will be updated so that you can update your instant queue directly from your 360. And it's about time! As for our friends across the pond, the U.K. will get Sky enabled on their 360's with no additional hardware. Our British friends will get to stream live TV to their consoles. Awesome news!

-Facebook will be enabled across the NXE. And...yeah...

Halt! The party has been crashed! By a familiar exclamation point! Yes, it's...it's...

-Holy shit, it's Hideo Kojima! And he confirms that the Metal Gear franchise is coming to Xbox 360. He announces Metal Gear Solid Rising and teases that Solid Snake won't be around for this game, which makes sense given the MGS4 ending. No further details can be given, but isn't THAT more than enough? Just a great moment.

And now back to our regularly-scheduled announcements.

-Oh boy...here we go...the Xbox 360 is getting motion control. By way of a motion-sensing camera. Called Project Natal...I'm very skeptical on this one.

-Hoping to ease my skepticism, here's Peter Molyneux to introduce Milo. Milo is a virtual boy who literally reacts to everything you can do with the motion-control spectrum. Closed-door demos will be in place later in the week, but it actually looks pretty amazing.

End Press Conference

Wow, that's impressive. That's a hell of a way to kick off the Big 3 Press Conferences and Sony has a VERY tough act to follow. I don't doubt they can do it, as they could easily trump a lot of this with their own Netflix announcement and a price cut announcement.

If you're a 360 owner, you have a lot to be happy about, between two upcoming Halo titles, a new Left 4 Dead, Final Fantasy, METAL GEAR SOLID~!, and first dibs on Modern Warfare maps.

Sony comes tomorrow, but...I might be a little late with that one. See you late tomorrow with news and notes, live from E3.

I know it was a matter of time before Metal Gear made the switch. Once FF made the move, I knew they would follow. God, when can we start to pre-order this? The wife will like the Rock Band and FFXIII news.

This might sound stupid, but why call it Metal Gear SOLID Rising if the character isn't going to be in it?

That's actually a fair question. Kojima's hinting that Solid Snake won't grace this title, but there's a reason that "Solid" is in the title. So there may be more than meets the eye here. Either way, it's an answer we likely won't get until a later date.

You owe it to yourself to look for that Beatles trailer on Youtube. Rock Band clearly put *way* more effort into their first band-specific game than the Guitar Hero franchise has bothered with so far with their Aerosmith and Metallica games. You get to see clips of all the afore-mentioned songs, plus the steady progression of looks and all the venues which is just a Beatles fanboy like myself's wet dream. (The Cavern! The Ed Sullivan Show! The fucking rooftop! The I Am The Walrus short film music video prototype!)

And you need to download Abbey Road in it's entirety just to play the You Never Give Me Your Money/Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam/She Came In Through The Bathroom Window/Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End/Her Majesty medley that ends the album in it's entirety. Which is going to be awe-some.

(Speaking of Guitar Hero, they announced the bands [but not songs] for Guitar Hero 5. The only song you can really extrapolate from it is "Under Pressure". It's a much more balanced batch than the shit-metal fest that was World Tour and I myself am very excited to see Johnny Cash and The White Stripes [both of whom I'd gladly drop $60 to buy an artist specific game for] - although the White Stripes lack of a bassline is puzzling with them now firmly aboard the Rock Band "full band" model. Even more confusing - an Elton John track. Think about it.)

Here's another trailer for The Beatles Rock Band. Best in show by a wide margin. An absolute must-get.
