There's a replay of the 2009 Soul Train Music Awards SATURDAY night, 8E/7C, on BET. (There are apparently replays aplenty on Centric TV - née BET J - but we lost that network on our cable system a while back.) During it's original airing Sunday - several hours before, actually - the STMAs quickly shot up to become THE top trending topic on Twitter all night! (This is partly because...and I hope you'll forgive me for noticing...Twitter has a lot of (whispering)black people(/whispering) on it!)
Really, all you need to see is the last half hour or so - don't miss an unbelievable tribute to Chaka Khan!
The STMAs were cancelled last year. (So was "Soul Train!") Later in 2008, Don Cornelius finally sold the whold Soul Train kit and caboodle off to MadVision, who created Soul Train Holdings, which now controls the rights to over 1100 hours of "Soul Train" episodes, along with gazillions of photos AND the previous STMAs (1987-2007) and Lady of Soul awards (1995-2006) and I think there's a few more productions in there as well. www.soultrain.com recently relaunched with not enough video content (and yet...more than when DCP ran the website!) We can only hope the minefield of rights fees can somehow be negotiated so that we finally get some damn Soul Train DVD sets!
Until then, "Soul Train" episodes are propping up Centric TV, which makes me even more annoyed it's not on my cable system at the moment.
Here's my super cool animated train graphic again!
I'm sure glad it's back... even if I can't see it.
I was on hold on Monday morning, waiting to talk to the mechanic at the dealership about why, exactly, my back wheel sheared off and passed me while I was driving the night before. The on-hold music was "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora.
