"What new DVDs are out 1/11/11," I hear you asking, to which I reply: "Damn, that's a whole lotta ONES!"
But ANOTHER way to answer that is with the following list of (count 'em) 297 titles!
PICK OF THE WEEK
Funny or Die Presents: Season One (The W at Amazon) (HBO, 2010) I didn't hold out a lot of hope for this show, but it was always on around the same time as "The Ricky Gervais Show" (see last week's PotW) so I would always watch it - and it was surprisingly good! It helped that almost all of the contributors were people I liked from other projects. Tim & Eric contributed a few films, "Drunk History" was always a treat...but I think the LOLest bit was the recurring "Designated Driver" from Rob Riggle and Paul Scheer. And, yes, Season 2 premieres...wow, this Friday (1/14).
Dragnet: 1968 Vol.1 Also Season 2, Vol. 1 (NBC, 1967-8) 10 episodes Adam-12: Vol. 1 Actually, "Season 2, Vol. 1" (NBC, 1969) 10 episodes Spin City: Vol.1 "Season One, Vol. 1" ] (ABC, 1996-7) you guessed it, 10 episodes - by the way, full seasons of all of these ARE already available but Shout! Factory likes to put out these cheap "tasters" to try to get you hooked
BRITISH TV OF THE WEEK Doctor Who: The Dominators (Story 44) (BBC, 1968) The Doctor (Patrick Troughton), Jamie and Zoe land on Dulkis - and I hear this is a pretty dull episode, but...well, there aren't so many Troughton episodes available to acquire Doctor Who: Meglos (Story 111) (BBC, 1980) The Doctor (Tom Baker) and Romana head to Zolfa-Thura to mediate, but The Doctor soon turns into a cactus The Sign of Four (1983) More info and trailer at BFS (bfsent.com) Skins, Vol. 4 (E4, 2010) Even as we speak, MTV is airing a commercial for the US version
The Freebie (2010) Dax Shepard, Katie Aselton (also directed) - no writers? Apparently most of it was extemporaneous - more info at Phase 4 (phase4films.com)
My One & Only (2009) Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Kevin Bacon, Eric McCormack, Chris Noth, Nick Stahl, Steven Weber - never heard of it
Soul Kittens Cabaret (2011) Adapted from a play? Fantasia Barrino, Faith Evans - more info and trailer at Image
Stonerville (2010) Pauly Shore, Alex Mauriello, Leslie Nielsen('s final movie?), Phil Morris - YouTube trailer (requires age verification) at...yes... YouTube Key-Stonerville Is this the same as that? I have no idea
KINO OF THE WEEK A Summer In La Goulette (Un été à La Goulette - Tunisia/France/Belgiu, 1996) More information at Kino (kino.com)
BIG COLLECTIONS OF THE WEEK 4 Film Favorites: Love Stories The Lake House, Forever Young, Message in a Bottle, Sommersby 4 Film Favorites: Girls Night A Cinderella Story, What A Girl Wants, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Chasing Liberty 4 Film Favorites: Family Fun Kangaroo Jack, The Ant Bully, Racing Stripes, The Iron Giant 4 Film Favorites: Love & Laughs Love & Hate, King's Ransom, Love Don't Co$t a Thing, Strictly Business - man, ain't no white folks in these movies 4 Film Favorites: Epic Romances The Painted Veil, Dangerous Liaisons, Silk, The Affair of the Necklace 4 Film Favorites: Michael Douglas Falling Down A Perfect Murder, Coma, Disclosure Clint Eastwood Collection 10 films: Gran Torino, Letters from Iwo Jima, Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, Unforgiven, The Rookie, Absolute Power, Dirty Harry, Kelly's Heroes, Where Eagles Dare
DOCUMENTARIES OF THE WEEK 9000 Needles (USA/China, 2009) (1/15) Picture Me: A Model's Diary (Picture Me - 2009) More info at Strand (strandreleasing.com) Candyman (New Zealand/USA, 2010) The story of the rise and fall of David "Mr. Jelly Belly" Klein - interestingly, after you look at the movie poster, it's striking that they decide to NOT put him on the DVD cover - as if it would move more units that way For Neda (HBO, 2010)
El Padrino II: Border Intrusion (2010?) Not to be confused with the Spanish language version of "The Godfather II" - this movie answers the question "Is Damian Chapa still working?" Yes, he is. (1/17)
Legion: The Final Exorcism Probably "Costa Chica: Confession of an Exorcist" (2006) David Heavener, Roddy Piper AND daughter Ariel Teal Toombs - golly! More info and unattractive cover at MTI (mtivideo.com)
The Hessen Conspiracy (The Hessen Affair - Belgium/Canada, 2009) Billy Zane, Lyne Renée
Love Hurts (2009) Richard E. Grant, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jenna Elfman, Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim
Magic Man (2010) Billy Zane, Alexander Nevsky, Robert Davi, Estelle Raskin, Bai Ling, Armand Assante - best Billy Zane cover of the week - and there IS more than one, so this actually means something! More info and (actually pretty awful) trailer at Maverick (maverickentertainment.cc)
(EDU-)SMUT OF THE WEEK LOVING SEX - Ecstasy 4 DVD Gift Set Wait, who doesn't love sex? Oh...you mean "loving" as an ADJECTIVE. (I think.) Includes three "programs" (one is 2 discs to make 4 discs total), the titles of which will surely get somebody to slap an "NSFW" tag on this thread (1/15)

Meh. I haven't turfed it from the DVR scheduling, but it hasn't done anything for me. Despite, as you say, the fact that almost all of the contributors were people I liked from other projects.
Drunk History is great, though.
It is the policy of the documentary crew to remain true observers and not interfere with its subjects. "Well. Shit." -hansen9j Go Pack Go! (10-6, 6th seed NFC) Let's Go Riders! (getting pretty tired of being the bridesmaid)
I received 3 copies of Inception on Blu-ray for Christmas. A dream within a dream within a dream.
I exchanged one for the Blu-ray of Kick-Ass but I wasn't sure what to do about the second extra Inception. Problem solved: Trading it in for The Social Network Blu-ray.
What a happy Christmas.

Very happy to see The Social Network finally out, as I wanted to see this one. I probably would have seen it in theaters, but I was too busy watching Jackass 3D and other less-serious stuff.
Speaking of the comedy, I watched the Comedy Central version of the Louis C.K. special, and it didn't really do anything for me. Too much alternating between sad sack and angry guy for me. Of course, right after that airs, the next thing on was the Roast of David Hasselhoff. And now after reading this thread, it all makes sense.
