I wanted to show a friend the "West Side Story" commercial for RR'05. Whipped out my shiny new DVD. Which has pictures from the commercial all over the cover. Can't find the damn thing on the actual DVD!
Perhaps I'm too blonde to find it? Or WWE was too blonde to put it on the disk? Is it at least hidden someplace as an Easter Egg?

That said, it does kind of seem like a given that they'd want to put that commercial out as an "extra".

Another thing, can you believe they left the Vince incident in? Wow.

I'd have to disagree. There are plenty of DVDs available where there's a three hour movie or whatever, and space for special features, like those documentaries that nobody watches, or voiceovers from directors.
It's just a matter of total laziness of the WWE people, or the fact they were afraid of come form of copywrite infringement. Not like it scared Vince much in the past, mind you.

Well WWE could in a sense have a 4 hour Mania on one disc but they want to preserve quality, they have a level or ''bit rate'' that they have abided by and sometimes extras have to be cut. The Rumble PPV was roughly 2hr 55min and i would guess that the DVDs they make would max at maybe 3hr 10 or 15, and there are many video packages on it. Sure the ad in one minute or so and they probably just left it out becuase its kinda at the start anyways.

The dvd being 60 seconds longer wouldn't lower the bitrate enough for anything but a computer to be able to tell. I don't have the dvd (yey Winnipeg!), but they probably stuck on a couple of their standard intros to the beginning of the dvd as well ("don't try this at home", plus they usually put another ad).
Besides, they've never had a problem before putting videos/matches on dvd that had pixilation problems (and not just the ones that they have to zoom in to cut out the attitude logo).

| #8 Posted on 22.4.05 1935.44 | Instant Rating: 8.47 | Now that I'm back at the house, comparing the DVD to my tape of the PPV broadcast*, they removed the ad from the DVD material. Both versions open with the standard WWE graphics, then a Royal Rumble recap (~49 sec). The originally broadcast version has a version of the commercial with some live action teasers embedded (~1:15); this is not on the DVD. The original broadcast went into "Raw, SD & PlayStation2 present...", which on the DVD is changed to just "Raw & SD present..."; that's understandable. Then things proceed from there.
Meanwhile, at the beginning of the DVD (before the main menu) there are 2 advertising spots -- one for New Year's Revolution DVD (~1:10) & one for RVD's DVD (~1:05) -- as well as the standard "Don't try this at home". So there's no actual excuse for "no room on the disk" -- I could do without ads for other DVDs for all posterity.
There is also an assortment of other "recapping" Extras, including 4 individual match "ads", another RR history segment, & history of the SD championship match. Definitely not a space problem.
I do still have the preceeding Heat on tape, & that also has both the full commercial as well as a "making of". So I do still have the material. It just would have been convenient to have everything in one damn place.
----------- * Yes, indeed, I actually paid for the PPV, & also bought the DVD. Vince, I buy your products! Work with me!!! (And stop actively offending me with Diva shit. But that's a different topic.) | hhhgamewmx7

It's just one more sign of the company that 'gives it's fans what they want' not paying attention to anything the fans care about, no matter how easy this one was for them.

I'll probably buy the DVD anyway, only because I hope that it will help get Fresno another show. (It probably doesn't matter.)

Exactly so, on both counts. (HGW7, not beating on you at all. Quite the contrary. If that weren't a plausible possible explanation, it wouldn't have warranted followup.) | hhhgamewmx7
