Ok, SORRY, I let you all down with no lists for November or December, but I'm back on track and EARLY for the post Christmas shopping rush. Here's a huge chunk of the new releases to DVD/Video for the week after Christmas and for January 2006. You may notice that Jan. 3rd is rather light. This is offset by the major market push of Jan. 24th which sees the largest release date EVER!

This is a long one kids, but there are so many great things coming out in January, it's almost shocking.

-----

--Feature Films/Straight To DVD--

-Dec. 25th-

IN MACARTHUR PARK (Classic late 70's 'slice of life' drama.)
ONE DARK NIGHT (Adam West! Meg Tilly! 80's Horror film! MUST BUY!!)
AMERICAN PIE PRESENTS - BAND CAMP (Huh?)
LAST RESORT (I'm listing this for a specific reason. I had science teacher (way) back in the 6th grade who was an extra in this film and he claimed to have been in an orgy at the after party. Every time I've seen this film on cable and I see him, I laugh.)
GRIZZLY MAN(Werner Herzog in top form.)
DARK WATER
LINDA LOVELACE FOR PRESIDENT (AWESOME!)

-Jan. 3rd-

WEDDING CRASHERS - UNCORKED
DUMB AND DUMBER (Unrated)
THE CAVE

-Jan. 10th-

SARABAND (Ingmar Bergman's 'sequel' to SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE. It's Bergman!)
KAMAKAZE GIRLS (Been waiting on this since 2004. Any movie that breaks the '4th wall' by having a commercial for the WALMART of Japan in the middle of the film deserves to be seen numerous times.)
NIGHT OF THE SKULL (Jess Franco directed film featuring Lina Romay naked. Need I say more?)
CABIN IN THE SKY (one of the first 'all black' films made in Hollywood, way back in 1943. Lots of jazz greats in this musical.)
THE GIRL FROM MONDAY (Sorry, I have a 'thing' for Sabrina Lloyd and it seems she's naked in this. Also, it's directed by Hal Hartley, so be warned.)
TWO MEN WENT TO WAR (True story of two Brit soldiers who go AWOL during WWII and invade France... by themselves.)
THE CONSTANT GARDNER
TRANSPORTER 2
EVIL BREED: THE LEGEND OF SAMHAIN (Richard Grieco! Jenna Jameson! Possibly together?)
CHAN IS MISSING (the first film directed by Wayne Wang (Joy Luck Club, Blue In The Face, Maid In Manhattan(Oops!)))
RED EYE
PAT GARRTTT AND BILLY THE KID (Sam Peckinpah classic with Bob Dylan doing the music.)
HUSTLE & FLOW
ERASERHEAD (Remastered by Lynch himself)
FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF - THE BUELLER BUELLER EDITION
THE BAD SLEEP WELL(Criterion) (Kurosawa's 1963 take on Hamlet!)
DEAD POETS SOCIETY (Special Edition)
THE ROGER CORMAN PUERTO RICO TRILOGY (Featuring a restored, leterboxed version of THE LAST WOMAN ON EARTH with commentary by Betsy Jones-Moreland. Also features the shot for television scenes. Yes, I'M EXCITED for this!)

-Jan. 17th-

THE DEVIL AND MAX DEVLIN (Classic 1981 Disney film starring Bill Cosby... by 'Classic', I mean really BAD! Features Julie Budd's 'Roses And Rainbows' so much it deserves second billing.)
DON'T PLAY US CHEAP (Melvin Van Peebles 1973 classic about two demons who crash a party in Harlem and chaos ensues!)
FEARLESS FIGHTERS (Kung-Fu goodness from the 70's!)
GALLERY OF DEATH (1967 anthology featuring a 'swingin' sixties' Dracula story with JOHN Carradine as the 'host'. Yes JOHN CARRADINE this time.)
SPACE AMOEBA (Think Godzilla, but it's a SPACE AMOEBA!)
LORD OF WAR
THE HUNT FOR EAGLE ONE (...because Rutger Hauer DESERVES your money!)
THE MAN (Eugene Levey! Samuel L. Jackson! Comedy Gold?... I didn't think so either.)

-Jan. 24th-

DUNE: THE EXTENDED EDITION (This will be the closest we'll ever get to a complete version of the film released legally here in the states. Running at 2hr57mins, Lynch himself oversaw editing the missing footage back into the film. The DVD will also feature new featurettes and personal photos and artwork from Lynchs' private collection.)
THE VIRGIN SPRING (Bergman and Criterion, together again.)
THE ARISTOCRATS (The movie you've ALL been waiting for with 2 HOURS of extra bonus footage!)
LIVE FREAKY, DIE FREAKY (Musical about Charles Manson... using puppets. Voices performed by Asia Argento, Tim Armstrong, Jane Wiedlin, Travis Barker and many others. Must see to be believed!)
WEREWOLVES ON WHEELS (OK, now see, it's werewolves and the ride motorcycles. It stars Stephen Oliver of PEYTON PLACE and Billy Gray of FATHER KNOWS BEST. It also stars Barry McGuire who wrote and sung 'Eve Of Destruction'. Lots of drug taking, topless dancing, satanic sacrificing, and fist fights. This is the epitome of CLASSIC CINEMA here, people!)
SHE, THE HARD WAY (Blacksploitation boxed set featuring THE MUTHERS, BLACK EMANUELLE WHITE EMANUELLE, SAVAGE ISLAND, and BLACK ROSE: THE HONG KONG TIGRESS. Basically, it's women kicking ASS, 70's style!)
VIRGINS FROM HELL (1987 Asian classic females kick ass in prison flick!)
DOG EAT DOG (Classic Jane Mansfield/Cameron Mitchell flick from 1964. If you pay close attention, you'll see Mariska Hargitay of LAW & ORDER: SVU fame in this film. She's the huge bump under Mansfield's clothing! Hehehe!)
CLASS OF 1984 (Classic cult film from the director or COMMANDO and FIRESTARTER. Alice Cooper did the theme song!)
CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS (1937 classic starring Spencer Tracy.)
2069: A SEX ODYSSEY/RUN VIRGIN RUN (Early Skinamax-Friday After Dark films. Originally made back in 1970.)
CAMILLE 2000 (This 1969 Italian drama was way before it's time with it's depiction of drugs and sex.)
VICE SQUAD (Classic 80's flick starring Wings Hauser as a B.A.M.F.!!!)
THE DIRTY GIRLS (Another great film by the director of CAMILLE 2000. This one about a day in the life of two prostitutes, one in Germany and one in France.)
CAMARA OSCURA (DEADLY CARGO) (very creepy Spanish film where using the 'shaky cam' technique worked extremely well.)
FAMILY PLOT (DVD release of Hitchcock's final film.)
3 THE HARD WAY... AGAIN (Blacksploitation classic!)
SAW 2
THUMBSUCKER (Mike Mills (REM) directs a stellar cast.)
LADY AND THE TRAMP - 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION
A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
RYAN'S DAUGHTER (David Lean directed this 1970 classic drama.)
OLIVER TWIST (The Roman Polanski version.)
ADDRESS UNKNOWN (More Japanese gruesomeness from Tartan Video!)
LA BETE HUMAINE (Criterion release of a Jean Renoir classic.)
METROPOLITAN (More Criterion excellence! This one is possibly the best non-Hollywood film made in 1990. Whit Stillmans first movie.)
THE CHILDREN ARE WATCHING US (Criterion)
YOUNG MR. LINCOLN (Criterion release of John Ford's 1939 classic. What a year 1939 was for films, huh? GONE WITH THE WIND, GUNGA DIN, MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, THE WIZARD OF OZ! Wow!)
DIECOVERY (Creepy Japanese horror!)
THE FOG ('just OK' remake of the John Carpenter classic.)
BUBBLE (Steven Soderberghs newest film. He rarely disappoints.)
THE ANDY SEDARIS COLLECTION Vols. 3 and 4 (Vol 3 features SAVAGE BEACH, RETURN TO SAVAGE BEACH, and ENEMY GOLD. Vol. 4 features DO OR DIE, HARD HUNTED, and DAY OF THE WARRIOR with Marcus 'Buff' Bagwell!)
EVILENKO (Malcolm McDowell as the USSRs' most prolific serial killer.)
AUTOPSY ROOM (Based on Stephen Kings short story from Everything's Eventual)
FLIGHTPLAN (Jodie Foster looking fine as always...)
THE BITCH (Sequel to THE STUD starring Joan Collins as the 'title' character. Trashiness to the nth degree.)
FUNNY VALENTINE (Larry Storch (F-Troop!) gets a paycheck!!!)
ELIZABETHTOWN (Cameron Crowe's disappointing 2005 effort.)
DOOM (Box office dud starring The Rock... but it LOOKED good visually at least.)
THE CUTTING EDGE - GOING FOR THE GOLD (A heartwarming sequel to the seminal classic THE CUTTING EDGE. Having just typed that, I need to go blow my brains out... it was a joke. Even though it IS a sequel.)
BAMBI II (...and I say boycott Disney. It seems that THIS movie takes place smack in the MIDDLE of the original film. What they want us to expect is that while watching the classic BAMBI from the 40's, that we should stop it and watch this shit, then go back to the original. Oh yeah... and it's COMPUTER animated! FUCK YOU DISNEY!)
STUART LITTLE 3: CALL OF THE WILD (Animated sequel to the first two live action films. Probably has better chance of sucking then most films.)
MIRRORMASK (I skipped it, I don't ever PLAN on seeing it even though it's Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman behind it. It seems like a huge egocentric blowjob to me.)

Keep in mind, I do this stuff cause I love you all!

Yeah, uh, you missed the season five Gilmore Girls Boxed Set that was released on Tuesday, December 13. Sigh.

Constant Gardner before Oscar Time should help its award chances, maybe, I hope. A Ferris special edition? I just bought the Office Space to replace my old one. Not a lot of great TV releases, though.

Well done Cerebus, thanks for the info!

I assume all prices are in US monies....regardless though, that's a KILLER deal for Teen Titans Season #1. Any word if they'll release Justice League Unlmited in complete seasons? Cause it don't matter how much those would be, I'm there YESTERDAY.

And also, is the He-Man series the ultra cheesy guilty pleasure 80's version? Or is it the BOSS UNDERRATED/UNDERWATCHED NO NONSENSE one from a couple of years ago (which owned massive?).

To celebrate the upcoming Troll Amnesty (and for otherwise no reason at all), I present to you the very best of Trolling here on The W. This weeks Troll Moment of the Week is brought to you by;

Bret screwed bret, who brought us such pieces as wisdom as: "I DID NOT come here to be attacked and trolled by these brain dead Steve Austin marks nor any Bret sheep. Thank you Mr. Zim for not paying attention to the trolls that was a great statement. I myself will not pay attention to these trolls either but continue posting clear, concise and well thought out commentary on those two worthless bastards Bret and Steve. Glad to see this board is run by intelligent people. I will however require an apology from the persons who insulted me. That was uncalled for and very low class indeed."

I am so glad I saw this, because I was thisclose to buying that for my father for Christmas. I'll wait. (Also, very cool linkage on the Miami Vice DVD there).

I dig these lists. Thanks for putting in the work!

Digital Bits reported that Lynch had nothing to do with this latest edition of DUNE and opted not to re-edit it.

Last I heard this was just the Alan Smithee TV version that Lynch apparently hates.

I don't know if it was just a formatting error, but in both all instances a good bit of your January 24th listings actually street either of the 31st or sometime in February, most notably Disney's latest "masterpiece" edition, "Lady and the Tramp" on Feb. 28.

"Living Single" on DVD! At last!

EDIT: That sucks, if that's the real deal with the Dune DVD. I've always wanted to see the non-Alan Smithee non-cut-up version of Dune (not necessarily 10 hours, but closer to 3 or 4).

Is there anywhere to get the "full" version of Dune, or any information on a DVD (even overseas) that I could track down to get it? I loved this movie as a kid, then saw some 5 1/2 hour showing on SciFi one day (course, that was with commercials).

I was just checking wikipedia on this after reading SKLOKAZOID's post.

It says that there are a couple different versions directed by David Lynch. The theatrical version (137 minutes), the "Allen Smithee" version (190 minutes), and a so called "Channel 2" Version (180 minutes).

You may be thinking of the SciFi channel's Dune miniseries, which is available at amazon.com.
