I'm looking at flights from Amsterdam to Boston and one of the cheaper options has a 3hr 45min layover in Dublin. Is anybody out there familiar enough with the Dublin airport to know if it is right in town, or at least near anything that I can could do within that timeframe? Thanks.
EDIT: I'm retarded for not thinking of just mapping it. I'd still like to see if anybody has any firsthand experiences with the immediate area, how long the trip into Dublin actually takes, etc.

Google Maps (maps.google.com) says it's at least 20 minutes outside of Dublin proper - assuming I got the right hit when I asked it for "Dublin airport, Ireland."
Was only there once. You can hop a bus or cab pretty quick and be in the heart of Dublin. Which is neat just to look at if nothing else. Check on security though as it will take awhile.
Yeah, I find it hard to believe you'll be able to do anything anywhere on a less-than-four-hour layover. It will take you time to get out of the plane, go through security, etc., and then you have to budget at an absolute minimum being back two hours before your flight.
Longer layovers are the way to go. I had a twelve-hour layover in London this year...can't remember whether I posted about it here or not, but it was as good a one-day vacation as you could ask for.

I don't know about at Dublin, but at some smaller airports a layover like that is long enough to venture outside. At the airport here in Phnom Penh (a city bigger than Dublin, though I don't know if that reflects on air travel), you can travel through security in 15 minutes easy, and there's no reason to be at the airport two hours early unless you enjoy sleeping on uncomfortable chairs for an hour and a half. A four-hour layover would certainly be enough time to see a few things around Phnom Penh. Again, I don't know about Dublin.
EDIT: So I just quickly did what I should have done from the beginning: I looked up the passenger numbers for the Phnom Penh and Dublin airports and, as anyone could have guessed, it's not even close. About 1.5 million last year for Phnom Penh, and about 22 million for Dublin. Probably not a good comparison.

I don't know about cost, but one of the girls at work actually got her boots taken in. If you get some that fit, except for around the calf, they can be altered by a decent shoe shop. It may take a bit of time though, and it won't be much of a surprise.
