As expected, Paramount's officially announced that the first season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will arrive on DVD on 2/25, hot on the warp trail of the last season of The Next Generation. And subsequent seasons of the show will arrive every other month throughout the rest of next year.
Look for the introductory 6-disc set to include all 20 first season episodes, along with numerous special features. You'll get Deep Space Nine: A Bold Beginning, Crew Dossier: Kira Nerys, Michael Westmore's Aliens: Season One, Secrets of Quark's Bar, Alien Artifacts: Season One, Deep Space Nine Sketchbook, Deep Space Nine Chronicles, Section 31 Hidden Files and a photo gallery.

I acually thought they might not release a DS9 DVD, for some reason... so this news brightens my day.
Though, I must say, I didn't find season 1 of DS9 all that special. I guess I'll have to wait until season 5 comes out to get some really great DS9 action...

| #5 Posted on 20.11.02 2246.25 | I am way pumped. I'll pick up all of them. The first couple seasons may be weaker than the last couple, but there are some fabulous episodes in the early years, including my personal favorite, "Duet".
Unfortunately, it's a few years before Eric Bischoff, I mean, Weyoun shows up.
I've gotten the first four of TNG. I {heart} tv on dvd.

I love the show, I grew up on it, and it had many incredible episodes, but DS9 was good on a very consistant basis thanks to the major use of arcs, while TNG's brilliance was spaced-out a lot more because of the episodic style. | ekedolphin

On TOS and TNG, you could beam to a planet, save McCoy or Wesley from the natives, and blow up the computer controlling their planet and then just leave without any consequences. On DS9, though, you'll have to live with the same people (even the bad guys) for years at a time. You get on the wrong side of Vedek Winn, she can come back to get'cha... especially once she becomes Kai. You can probably make a list of 25 or so regular and recurring characters on DS9 that the casual viewer would be familiar with. That's pretty much unheard of for any series save a soap-opera.

Oh, I don't know about that... I think there were a HELL of a lot more recurring characters on Babylon 5, seeing as how the entire show was one great big story arc.
I think they're comming out with Season 1 of Babylon 5 reletively soon... now THAT'S a show that I'm going to be getting everything from.

like, they ships and bases didn't have gravity and rotated to simulate it. stuff like that. They had Harland as a advisor for a reason...
but the end of the 4th season really turned me off. Claudia got fired, and the end of the season really was WEAK [i don't want to spoil anything for non watchers] and i was like "That's it?" i checked out a few shows from the 5th season here and there, but it seemed like Season 5 was an afterthought and the show really should have ended at 4.

Actually, B5 wanted to be Star Trek meets Lord of the Rings. Still not quite there for either of them, though.
