Nintendo announced a major 3DS price drop coming August 12, down to $169.99 from the current $249.99. Nobody buys hardware when you don't release games, I suppose.
Anyway, those of us who were big enough dummies to buy in early get a lovely bonus on September 1: 10 free downloadable NES games and 10 free downloadable Game Boy Advance games. Anyone who connects to the 3DS eShop on or before August 11 qualifies. The NES games will eventually be sold through the 3DS Virtual Console but the Game Boy Advance games are not going to be (or so they're saying now, anyway).
In Canada, Walmart and Best Buy are selling the 3DS at $199 right now. Buy the system now at Best Buy and connect to the eShop to qualify for the free games, and head back to Best Buy after August 12 to get your money back via their 30-day price protection policy.
The free games are:
NES - Super Mario Bros - The Legend of Zelda - Ice Climber - Balloon Fight - Donkey Kong Jr. - five more to be announced
GBA - WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! - Mario Kart: Super Circuit - Mario vs. Donkey Kong - Metroid Fusion - Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 - five more to be announced
DSiWare (Thursday) - GO Series: Portable Shrine Wars (200 pts) - Oscar's World Tour (500 pts) - My Australian Farm (200 pts)
