Philadelphia:

Eagles Draft Party!

Kickoff the NFL Draft with the Philadelphia Eagles at the 2002 Eagles Draft Party (presented by Verizon Wireless and Penn Orthopaedics).

The festivities will be held on Saturday, April 20, from noon to 5 p.m., at Jillian's Entertainment Complex in Franklin Mills Mall.

Here's what's happening:

Player autograph sessions with Brian Mitchell, Cecil Martin, Barry Gardner, John Welbourn, Tony Stewart and A.J. Feeley.

Cheerleaders & SWOOP

Caricature Artist

Great prize giveaways

ESPN Draft coverage and WYSP

Chance to win the authentic jersey of the Eagles' first pick before it's available in stores.

Free Parking at Jillian's.

It sounds like fun but I have plans for the day and will miss the party.

Gotta hand it to the NFL to turn the draft into a huge event.

You're in a desert, walking along in the sand when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise. It's crawling towards you. You reach down and flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over. But it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.

In Nashville at Adelphia Colesium you can park for free, get in for free, meet some players, and watch the draft on the big screen. The radio announcers will also be there to give opinions on the picks and stuff. I'm working so I won't be going, but I think they expect a big turnout as the ads say the first 11,000 fans will get a free something or other. So this is basically the same thing the Chargers are doing.

Also the Titans have this thing called the Titans Caravan. It goes from city to city all summer with two or three players and coaches aboard. You can get free autographs and pictures if you feel like waiting in line when they come to your town. Last year my brother got his pic and autograph of Kevin Carter (the bum). This year Eddie George is supposed to be coming to town. I am a big Ohio State fan so I am looking forward to that.

Ouch.

You can't get anywhere near Lambeau right now without a hard hat, so I doubt it in GB. Besides, it's a long wait to get that first pick in.

Since Louisville doesn't have an NFL team and our AFL2 team doesn't play a home game until mid-May, and my beloved Seahawks are thousands of miles away, I guess I'll have to watch it at home.

Plus, there can't be anything more depressing than driving to Cincinnati (the closest NFL team to the 'Ville) to view their latest mistake in person ;-)

Kansas City:

Chiefs Fans: Public Draft Day Party To Be Held
The Kansas City Chiefs will be hosting their annual NFL Draft Day Party on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Arrowhead Club (located on the north side of Arrowhead Stadium) from 11 a.m. 3 p.m.

This event provides an exciting atmosphere for Chiefs fans to keep an eye on the newest draft picks throughout the league. The NFL Draft will be broadcast live from New York while local Masters of Ceremonies, Gordon Docking and Joe McCabe provide commentary on the selections as they are made throughout the day.

Current and former Chiefs players will be stopping by the party. Additionally, Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders and KC Wolf will make appearances.

Admission for adults is $8.00 and kids 12 and under is $4.00. A free draft day commemorative item will be distributed to the first 500 fans. Food, beverages and souvenirs will be available for purchase.

This years event is being sponsored by Sprint and 101.1 The Fox . For additional information, please call (816) 421-2462.

=========

Of course, here in KC, there isn't much of a basketball following, so no one besides me cares about the NBA Playoffs. But 2 weeks from now, I will be back in the greater Boston area, and hopefully, the Celtics will still be playing...

Is it possible that the draft was bumped back a week by the NFL, as everything was during the season? Just a thought, though I don't think it's so.
