You could say that they ran out of ideas.

You could say that this was the only logical way to solve the unbalanced roster problem.

You could say that the shows will lose their identity that they've finally carved out for themselves.

It should help all those guys in ruts like Booker T, RVD, Matt Hardy, Rhyno, and TWGTT.

I agree with Vince that there needed to be a shakeup. I just don't know if it needed to be this drastic.

My problem is the everyone is available idea. Its doubtful they are going to move title belts anyway, so at least make it that the champions privilege extends to not being subjected to the draft/lottery.
And, I think they really blew the opportunity with the GM's to make trades. That should have been the primary function of the GM's, not the getting involved in every feud. Have the GM work behind the scenes to try to out-manuever the other GM in terms of getting the best deal in a trade (the other GM is desperate to get someone due to injury, trying to dish off someone who is injured on a GM that doesn't know it, dump one problem for another etc.). Instead, they made the GM's Vince Jr's.

I like this "Reset". The rosters were unbalanced. With Brock leaving, it was even more un-balanced. Doing it after WM is good timing as well. Hopefully the GM role will evolve in this from the current roles. Notice Vince said that "Even family members will be in the draft", so I assumer Stephanie will be back next week. I wonder if Orton will be split from the rest of Evolution so he can stand on his own 2 feet? The destination of Edge is also a question mark.

I think it might be a good thing for guys that are getting lost in the shuffle ... It could give guys like Rhyno, O'Haire, Cade & Jindrak (to name a few), a chance for a rebirth of sorts ...

I think it would be a good idea to do the draft every year after Wrestlemania. It would be a nice move with Wrestlemania being the end of the season.

I wouldn't mind getting guys like Jericho, RVD, Christian, and Booker on SmackDown, and keeping Triple H far FAR away from them.

Now THAT'S a good idea! Vince & Co. should have a lottery after every Wrestlemania, just so we can have fresh new storylines and feuds, instead of "Michaels vs. HHH, Part 27", or another installment of "Cena vs. Big Show". I, for one, am anxious to see who's going where next week.

It's not a draft. It's a lottery. It was called a draft last time they pulled this dumb shit. How fucking stupid did Lawler sound talking about what if the Dudleys split up and hearing J.R. half muttering that it had already happened before? What an incredibly boneheaded idea to just start from scratch for like the fourth time since the WCW purchase. After such a good Wrestlemainia and Benoit and Eddie just now getting the belts this move is beyond stupid. Where it all begins again indeed Vince.

Y'know, they could just keep every champion where they are, but next week on RAW have a one-time only Survivor Series style match involving each show's champs against each other. Eddie/Rikishi/Scotty/Chavo/Cena vs. Benoit/RVD/Booker/Orton/Victoria (she'd be the first out, presumably) would be a pretty bitchin' main event for what should be a very interview-intensive show.

Funny, I thought that was the entire point of what they've been doing for the past two years... If, by your own admition, it failed the first time, what makes you think it'll work this time?

Normally I hate resets like this because they're the result of lazy writing (easier to reset than work things out via storyline, after all), but this really is necessary.

Trades only work if the rosters are even to begin with, but things were so uneven that it was getting stupid. Last month Raw was so deep that they had to give the tag belts to Booker & RVD just so they had something to do, while Smackdown was so desperate for talent that they actually had to put Jamie Noble vs. Nidia out there - with storyline and hype - on a seven match PPV. Ridiculous, but then, you can only learn from your mistakes, and it looks like they have. Doing main eventer for main eventer trades don't help the fact that Smackdown doesn't have enough guys; it gives them someone different instead of someone more, which they need.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little shuffling of the championships, either. It never made sense to me that Raw had two world titles but then the IC title instead of the US title...always seemed to make more sense to me to group the WWE titles together on one show and the geographic titles on the other (a switch to World Womens Champion rather than WWE Womens Champion wouldn't be a bad idea either). Maybe I'm just being picky.

Regardless, I think this is a great idea, and has already been said will hopefully give some guys who really need it a fresh start.

What new dream matches can be created from the lotery?
Cena vs HHH is the only mainstream one I can think of, maybe even Rey Mysterio vs. RVD. I'm looking foward to Akio vs Hurricane, Charlie Hass becoming a solo star, Randy Orton losing ALL his Evolution allies and being alone on a brand. Maybe now Heyman can book RVD the right way. Too bad stephanie and Shane are coming in to replace the GM's (Vince hinted this a little), but I guess it gives Bicsh and Heyman a reason to return to WWE down the line to re-do the Invasion angle the right way with ECW and WCW. I know it's a redundant idea, but don't put it past them.

I think that it would be a great idea to totally and completely seperate RAW and Smackdown completely. I mean, seperate Pay Per Views a week apart and everything else. Maybe even go as far as restarting WCW and pitting the shows against eachother again on the same nights. And not even purtting the same WWE insigna on both of the shows.

Won't happen. Once you stop calling it WWE, it loses most of the name recognition they've built up.

Personally I think it's a bad idea. In my opinion the two different shows have only just begun to get the identity needed to see them as separate entitiies. Sure the rosters are now unbalanced, espcecially with Brock etc going, but this could've have been sold with some sort of GM Talent Trade, with Paul Heyman finding a way to "short change" Bischoff. Even a novelty match between the two GM's on the next PPV with the winher getting to ransack 2 or 3 workers from the over side would have worked- even if the match didnt.

Sorry If I've rambled.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the draft probably won't be as drastic a change as they want you to believe. They tried to make it sound like a complete reshuffling of the rosters, but I'm thinking you'll have between five and ten guys from each show moving.

I agree with the above statement. I think as long as the champs don't leave their current shows, they keep current fueds together (live Jericho v Christian, Rey v Chavo, etc), and keep the feel for each show the same (Raw is the more sports entertainment, storyline first show, smackdown is the wrestling first show with the cruisers), then I think we will be OK. I was kind of surprised they kept the tag titles on Booker/RVD last night, because then it wont be such a big problem moving them, maybe a tag champ for tag champ swap?

I am truely shocked and amazed at all the bitching going on here. EVERYBODY here says the same thing. "I HATE HHH FIGHTING HBK ALL THE TIME" "RVD NEEDS TO MOVE" "GIVE O'HAIRE A PUSH" Yet, when Vince and company FINALLY realise that the product, although getting better in terms of action is also getting stale in terms of stories, and they decide to do something about it, people bitch and complain. "WHAT ABOUT THE TAG TEAMS" "WHAT ABOUT THE CHAMPIONS" Well, its simple, you say, with the exception of the Tag Champs, every other Tag Team is open to a split. The only one I can think of that really NEEDS to be together are the Dudleys. (With perhaps the APA if Simmons isnt retiring). Then you can say that if RVD or Booker's name is pulled, then they go, AS A TEAM to whatever show pulled thier name.As far as Champions go, same for them, leave them up for pulling. Nobody ever calls the US Title the SMACKDOWN US Title. Put Cena on Monday nights with the strap.

If EVERY SINGLE WRESTLER is available for the lottery, then of course that means that SMACKDOWN and RAW arent going to be the same old show, so RVD moves to Smackdown isnt a big deal, its just that he gets a fresh start with a supposed fresh set of opponents, or at least a 50% of the roster fresh start.

And, finally this will hopefully mean that we will get JR and TAZZ on the same broadcast team and Cole and JR on the other.

Yup, you got it! The wrestlers would be more than welcome to take other bookings if they wanted to refuse their severance package they got from the WWE, I would wager.
