Does anyone know of any of the online music site things that has a copy of the Tiller Boys seven inch "Big Noise From the Jungle?" The B-side ("What, Me Worry?") would be nice too. I can't find it anywhere.

It's a little pricy, but you could consider it an investment (db3.gemm.com).

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I have the single, but I was looking to get it in pristine digital format, so I wont have to put a nickel on top the needle to listen to the song anymore. I was wondering if any site like www.buymusic.com or the new napster or anything like that had it.

Since it's not illegal for you to create a backup copy on your computer by hooking your phonograph up to your PC, would it be illegal to use a P2P program to download a copy? Seeing as how you already own a hard copy and all. I've done this with a bunch of songs I didn't feel like ripping.

I would imagine not, in the same way that ROMs are legal if you own the cartridge, but I can't ever find it on a P2P.

Actually, after consulting an IP attorney (aka the wife), it probably is illegal to download a copy via p2p. In essence, it is fair use for you to make your own backup copy in any format you choose. But, the backup has to come from your own personal source material. By downloading it, even though you own a copy, you are violating copyright since that downloaded copy is not one you legally purchased. Of course, some attorneys, most notably the ones at the EFF, would disagree with that interpretation but that sems to be the way case law on this issue is tending.

It's illegal to distribute archival copies of copyrighted material in any manner. How that applies to the person who's receiving the copy, I couldn't say, but I'm sure the RIAA believes it's grounds for capital punishment. And the RIAA has more money than you, so that puts them in the right as far as legality is concerned.
