1)If you're not a fan of the game or of action movies, I really can't recommend it. It moves slow and builds, then explodes, but some of the people there described that as "BORING."
2) If you ARE a Doom fan, then God this a fun time. Go nuts.
3) Rock still makes a good asshole.
4) God MODE! The correct ending! (Most of it, cliffhanger-ed for... um... guess they're begging us to beg for a sequel.)
5) Best credits sequence since Spider-Man.
6) No idea WHY bioengineering was placed in there instead of just plain Hell, but it didn't hurt the movie.
BFG. Pinkie. Doom fans, Rock fans, action fans, go nuts.

Was this fashioned after DOOM 3 as opposed to the Hell background of Doom and the first sequel?

I may check this one out. It looks like it could be interesting.
The main guy gets injected with the stuff that makes everyone turn into monsters. Since he's "good" his eyes go blank and he goes on an ass kicking spree. Sure reeked of a nod to God Mode to me.
And yeah, it's not literally Hell, but it works.
