ESPN.com just put up a brief little blurb on their front page saying that Don Baylor was fired today by the Cubs.

Of course, that one has been rumored for awhile and even Baylor seemed to be expecting it the last few days.

Replaced I believe by pitching coach Bruce Kim.

What a way to go into the all-star break.

I asked Bobby Dylan, I asked the Beatles.
I asked Timothy Leary, but he couldn't help me either.

My bad.

I know that Kim used to be a pitching coach and was connecting the dots in my head.

I asked Bobby Dylan, I asked the Beatles.
I asked Timothy Leary, but he couldn't help me either.

Three things:

A) Isn't it "Kimm" and not "Kim"?

B) Baylor had to have known it was coming; he had a mini-meltdown on a Marlins pre-game interview that was played on WSCR on Wednesday.

C) Baylor down... now if Kenny Williams and Jerry Manuel can be replaced, all is good with the world.

MLB confirms this morning that Tony Gwynn has passed at 54 years old after battling cancer. Once a Padre, always a Padre. I will always remember his trademark voice. Such a great guy and a great hitter. Baseball definitely loses one of the best today.
