With Rocky getting ready to film yet another flick, rumors are buzzing that Lesnar should win the strap at SummerSlam. I am inclined to disagree because I just can't see WWE giving the belt to someone so... new. I hope WWE hasn't caught "Goldberg-itis". Brock doesn't need a belt to get over with the fans, and they're cheering him no matter who he faces. He's definitely got a presence. It's reminiscent of how the heel RVD still got great cheers when he was with the Alliance. It was only a matter of time before he turned face, and I think it's the same with Lesnar.
I can't see Rock holding the title while he's out making movies- that's why I'm perplexed here.
How about it, folks? Does Brock go over at SummerSlam?
It's not as if Rocky is rushing to a plane after his SummerSlam match to start filming that night. He could retain the title in a unique finish that will pop the buyrate for Raw the next day, and have him drop it within a week or two.

I think they are pushing him too quickly. I mean he wouldnt really be that bad of a champion. There has been worse. I'd rather see Angle Vs.Lesnar but then the title would have went to 3 heels in a row.Even Goldberg didn't win the title in only 5 months. Anyway they are pushing Lesnar the wrong way. He is all power and no moves. JR could say how many NCAA titles he won all he wants but it doesnt seem to have an effect on his wrestling style. I'm not saying he should be all power or all technical but hopefully both. In conclusion while Brock could be an ok champion he still should have a few more months under his belt. It would also have been more interesting if he had one the I-C title and had a title for title match. The only problem there is that RVD deserves the I-C title.....and the World Title
Brock's winning it. WWE's got a plan, although I'm not sure how good and thought out it is.
I'm not really big on Brock winning the title myself. I like Brock, but I don't see him quite at this level yet. It's like HHH's first few title reigns where WWE just shoved him down everyone's throats to make him a star.
Brock definitely hasn't risen based on his talent, or even charisma. He's big and can move around quite well, so that's cool, I guess, but it's not like he's Kurt Angle or anything. At least when Angle won the title, it seemed right and he mixed with the main eventers quite well. With Brock, it's all up in the air.
I think they're making Brock hold back, as far as diversifying his style. Being an NCAA champ, he has to have moves not unlike Kurt Angle's. (I really hope they slowly build up Lesnar/ Angle into a Wrestlemania match.) We know Brock's done the shooting-star splash in OVW, yet haven't seen it in any of his WWE matches. Again, I think they're waiting to shock the hell outta the crowd with something like that in some huge PPV match.
SmooveK is right, Rock isn't bouncing as soon as the match is over. I'd like to see him keep the title a little longer, if possible. The title seems to lose some prestige when it changes hands too quickly. Hell, I think Jericho should STILL be the champ, dammit!
I agree that Jericho still should be the champ and not be jobbing to JOHN CENA! Triple H was a wasted storyline because he lost it right to Hulk hogan who had it just to have it and so people wouldnt think he was washed up. Undertaker was a good champ. Jericho was a really good champ and should win it agin within a year.
Not Really. That's why I see a split between him and Paul E. coming pretty soon. And what I wouldnt give to see a Brock/Kurt WRESTLING match. Mabye I can find one in the bottom of a cereal box. It's more likely than Vince giving us one.
I think if Brock wins the belt, he should stay on the same path with RVD, constantly either defeating him or finding cheap ways to keep his belt. If this happened for months (imagine if it went like this off and on till WM19) imagine the pop and prestige when RVD FINALLY wins clean and gets the belt.
I'm gonna get me an oversized guitar, gain 40 pounds, and become the next D!
Originally posted by mrHysteriaany bets that angle gets into the mix for a three-way at summerslam? angle walks out with the title, and into a great feud with brock...
rewards angle for all his hard work, gives brock more time to build the big money match for when he does get the title.
2 months straight of Angle being that "other guy?" No thanks. This would be another example of the WWE promising us one thing and giving us another, which people bitch about non-stop. They've flat-out told us it's Rock vs. Lesnar, putting Angle in there downgrades what Lesnar did at KotR. "Hey, the King of the Ring gets a title shot...but so does Kurt Angle!" Me: "Why did Lesnar have to win the tournament then?"
Brock Lesnar has been given the title shot and I hope he wins. He entertains me, I don't give a damn how long he's been a professional. Who made the rules about how long you have to be around before you can win the World Title? Lesnar as WWE Champion would be refreshing. It'd be nice to see someone besides the usual suspects hold that belt.
I am willing to back Brock getting the title because 1) they seem to have a plan with him, and 2) he is a young guy so none of us can say for sure what he can do. I'm sure we can think of people who were pushed in this kind of situation and it turned out great... HHH and Rock are the two most obvious. I think it's only really fair to question the booking when it's either clear that they don't have a plan (which unfortunately has been the usual scenario for at least two years now), or when their plan is to push a guy who has PROVEN that he doesn't have what people are looking for.
gonna build a giant drill and bore straight into hell releasing ancient demons from their sleep-forever spell so they can walk upon the earth and get recituated and run the diet pill pyramid that MC Pee Pants has created
I'm actually gonna go on record as saying that giving Goldberg the World Title was a good idea.
The guy could wrestle somewhat (he was stiff, green, yeah, but he always worked to improve himself), had the “look”, a goodly amount of charisma, and was able to get the fans behind him.
What's more, he was made to look like an unstoppable force.
Lesnar... well, he has the look, even though he looks like Crash Holly's big alter ego. He doesn't seem really all that over to me-- those are “Goldberg” chants you're hearing, not “Lesnar” or “Brock” chants.
He can wrestle, apparently, but hasn't been allowed to really showcase his talents. And he sure as hell isn't being made to look unstoppable-- most of his matches seem to consist of him getting his ass kicked before Paul Heyman distracts his opponent, allowing Brock to hit the F5.
So no, in my opinion Brock isn't the man to be your standard-bearer. I'd book Angle, Jericho or Benoit in that capacity myself (in that order), but then you already knew I'd say that.

With what happened on Smackdown, I could see Brock feuding with Angle, not RVD, till sometime in late November (Survivor Series?) dropping the belt to Angle, and Angle headlining WM19. But that's assuming he beats Rock at Summerslam.
Brock feuding with Angle only makes sense if they hot-shot a face turn for Brock after he wins the belt, which would defeat the purpose of what they're trying to do with him, I think.
Plus, as many of you guys said - Brock can wrestle, but he hasn't been able to show it yet, and a match with Hulk Hogan isn't going to do that for him. And whoever said he was over - they're chanting "Goldberg", not "Lesnar". It's Brock's LOOK that's over, not Brock, and that's not good enough.
I say keep the title on Rock, have him drop it to Angle before Unforgiven, and get Edge ready to take it from Kurt when he leaves to train.
Of course... everything that's happened in the past two weeks has only continued to back up my contention that Jericho should not have lost the title at Wrestlemania, and if the Federation had done the right thing there, things would be considerably different now, methinks...

If you ever saw Brock wrestle a match in college, you'd take back those remarks about him having moves like Kurt Angle. Like most NCAA heavyweights, Brocks moves on the mat were about the same as a sumo wrestler's: Get hooked up, and then have this long, boring, annoying "pushing contest".. Basically waiting for the other guy to get slightly off balance so you could push him down and sit on him. Brock's pro style is all about power moves.. which sells to the trailer trash marks.. Kurt Angle is probably one of the best (if not THE best) all-around competitors ever.. great moves, mic, heat.. WWE is pushing Lesnar because of the "more is better - might is right" philosophy.. Which sucks. Lesnar is like one endless "Hulking up" sequence, and I can't stand to watch him.
I have to say after how the end of last night's show played out that Angle is turning face, probably after Summer Slam. Smackdown is going to need another "over" guy to be a face after Rocky is gone filming. Angle, not Edge, is the perfect guy for that. They have started portraying him as a bad ass recently (save last night's match), and the you suck chants aren't as loud as they were previously. The seeds were planted at the end of Smackdown. Of course, the HHH conspiracy theory says Brock wins the title at Summer Slam, then HHH becomes the first superstar to make Brock see the lights. It's Kevin Nash booking at it's finest.

I agree. Angle and Steph have always had great chemistry and, as the new GM, she is going to be involved with the top players whether you like it or not. Since she is the face to Bischoff's heel, you have to believe that Angle (or possibly Jericho) will be turning face very, very soon.
I don't understand your thinking here, Salami. Kurt Angle gets more heel heat than anyone in the company (with the YOU SUCK chants and everything) because he's annoying (in a non-Xpac-ish kind of way) and his character is a weinie who knows how to kick ass. I watched the Kurt Angle face run of last year with you, and we both saw how bad it was. He's going to stay heel. As for Jericho...I'm thinking they may move him to Raw and feud him with some of the guys there as a face. I think the people would love to cheer Jericho. He was over like hell when he turned heel in one of the most masterful turns I've ever seen, but it's already getting old. It seems he's feuded with everyone on Smackdown and he continually jobs, so I think he's moving to Raw where he'll be one of the top faces. Raw really needs a good charismatic face right now. And, of course, they have to put him on the same show as HHH. ;-) As for Brock, he's just no fun to me. I can't behind him no matter how hard I try, even though I'm a heel-rooter in true smark fashion. He bores the hell out of me. I say put the belt on Edge, RVD, Booker or even Cena (in a few months anyway).
