SciFi has picked up the new Dr. Who and the premiere will be March 17th @ 9pm [eastern time]. I am so stoked. I hope it's at least half as good as some of the previous incarnations.

...on St. Patrick's Day.
It's not Christmas Eve or anything, but it's still a holiday that involves a ton of people celebrating it and/or going out. I know I sure as Hell probably won't watch, and I've been waiting to see this for awhile. What were they thinking?*

Except that "Sci Fi Friday" is an established property with a solid following. It's like the geek equivalent of "Must See TV". If they aired it on any other night, I'd say they were burying it, but this is fine.

Boo, this means A LOT OF COMMERCIALS (but then, this IS Sci-Fi - commercials is what they do)
I have to admit that even though I've acquired (wink wink) the whole season, I still haven't bothered to watch beyond the first episode (which I liked a lot). I don't know if I'll fare any better watching it if it's "competing" with hour two of Smackdown! Although...I see there'll be a replay later that night (as well as late Sunday night - hmmm, finally an alternative to decreasingly-satisfying [as] programming?)

That said, I should be able to transfer this with TiVo to go to my DVD burner, so that will be nice. Assuming there is nothing cut out, I may not need to buy this on DVD later.
Of course, I just bought the awful Dune 4 hour mini-series that SciFi put out so who am I kidding, I'm buying this anyway.

Which incarnation? (referring to the show, not the Doc ;-))
Doctor Who on Sci-fi is old news for a while, but I'm happy in the recent development of back-to-back episodes on its premiere night.
I've seen every episode of the new series (even the Christmas Special). It was a blast, and I managed to catch every episode despite my coming into Who fandom late (c. the episode "Bad Wolf"). The new series isn't burdened with 26+ years of continuity and some of the more "comfortable" aspects of the Doctor have been shaken up.
The Sci-fi site isn't the best Who resource though; I'd prefer Outpost Gallifrey or the actual official site on the BBC. Since the Beeb is going into the second series now (which means newbies visiting there could face severe spoilers), may I suggest the kayfabe version of the Doctor Who universe? |
