We say good bye to the Ponds well mostly Amy. There is a lot to go over in this episode, but it comes down to the Angels sending Rory and Amy back in time to a point that the Doctor can't get them, but somehow River can. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but it is a bit of tear jerk especially Amy calling River, Melody and the Doctor, Raggedy man. Its not as heart wrenching as Donna's departure, but its a step up from Rose.

Christmas we get a new companion, the girl from the Dalek episode. I know my friends like her attributes, but she reminds me too much of River with the fast witty dialoge. Since River is coming back, I am not sure if she will be needed. If anything, I enjoyed having a couple in the Tardis which was a nice change of pace from starry eyed girl who is in love with the Doctor sans Donna. Goodbye Ponds.

I, on the other hand, am happy to see the Ponds go. Doctor Who, in the Amy Pond era, had turned into a situation comedy, with the Doctor becoming the wacky next-door neighbor in the mode of Cosmo Kramer. Hopefully, the show will turn back towards the science fiction side and leave the sitcom elements to other shows.

Potentially showing how long I've been a Whovian, my gold standard for a companion departure is still the departure of Sarah Jane Smith. In my opinion, that departure bests anything the new series has concocted.

I did find it interesting that the Doctor can apparently heal human bodily injuries with a redirect of his regenerative energy - I don't recall him ever doing that before.

River's not really human though. She's able to regenerate, after all. Happy to see the Ponds go, wish River would go with them, episode was pretty terrible all around.

Now that we know what happens in the future, there's nothing we can do? Really? There's 32 prior seasons that would disagree.

I was having a discussion with someone today about the direction will take now. The entire Moffat as showrunner era has been about the fairy tale of Amelia Pond.

With her gone, what now?

I wonder if the show will start to go more in the direction of Gatiss, since he is I believe writing 2 episodes in the second half of the season (including the

episode). And I'm one of the people who think he is the heir apparent show runner once Moffat likely leaves after the anniversary season.

I don't think you can presume too much about Jenna-Louise Coleman's character just based on Oswin Oswald, especially if the Xmas trailer is not as swervy as it might appear to be.

Something else that annoys me is that this episode has recast the Angels as basically upmarket Autons, made of stone/metal instead of plastic. Except they can feel pain, and can't move in plain sight, and don't have weapons, or control over a material that is EVERYWHERE around us, like plastic is.

So they're basically the worst possible permutation of Autons possible.

Expect Autons in the New Who are lame. They were manikins in the first episode and only re-appeared to give an out to Rory being alive. The Angels are better, because they can either kill you with their hands or take over your body or time zap you where you can never come back from. Autons, I mean to be honest, I haven't seen Autons do a damn thing expect just hold someone in place. The Angels just killed two companions, good luck topping that.

If Whovians had their way, Gaiman would take over, but he is too busy and considering it took three years to write one episode, I don't think he could handle it.
