I know, I know -- talking about the Divas is gonna immediately make me Mr. Popularity on this forum, since EVERYONE adores random unknown models taking TV time away from the wrestlers... but since the Diva Search winner WILL be commanding lots of "face time" for the next year, I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on who they'd like to see as the winner?
The top five Divas (in my opinion):
1. Alexis -- WOW!!! By FAR the hottest -- and the greatest potential to become an entertaining personality! 2. Simona -- Got that European charm 3. Summer -- Not bad 4. Ashley -- Could handle 5. Leyla -- Great look, but seems like a know-nothing snob
ASHLEY [New York] -Pros: Former gymnast, wrestling family, on-camera experience CAMERON [Florida] -Pros: Former Miller Lite Girl, Playboy model ALEXIS [California] -Pros: Unique look (every single Diva except Sharmell is white), apparently a WWE fan
It'll be one of these three. I'm pulling for Ashley or Alexis, but it'll end up being Cameron.
Out of boredom after seeing this topic, I decided to go to the Diva Search page on WWE.com to see who is who. Six out of the eight contestants are from around L.A.? What does it tell you? These people are nothing more than just a couple local chicks they picked up when doing the search in LA. They see an ad with the word "diva" in it and automatically want to become famous. Then, with not even the slightest bit of knowledge of the WWE or anybody in it, they get a spot on the roster. Meanwhile, hard-working indy wrestlers are out there busting their ass everyday to try to make to the big-time. Sickening, just sickening...

From what Meltzer has said, the women haven't been contacting WWE; rather, WWE contacted modeling agencies and they've recruited contestants out of those people they represent.
To the models, I expect it's just pitched as a job, with a lot more travel but a lot more high profile appearances than most. I do not believe they're cheating or getting a free pass or whatever, because they're not (at least at the start) looking for the job as a comparable female wrestler.
They wanted to be famous long befor they heard of the Diva Search.

I hear you. Really. I miss Jazz, Molly, Gail, and I still think Shaniqua could have been a top draw had she been used properly. And where are the indy girls signed and moved to OVW? Melina doesn't wrestle, does she?
But these girls are fodder for bikini contests, pillow fights and the odd short feuds, like Christy's Victoria bout. And if they're going to hire cheesecake, I'd rather it be fresh faces cheesecake than Sable or Nidia. It's subjective, I know. And I'd rather see these girls do what they're hired to do well than watch Lita do her job so badly.

My prediction is that I'll be (at least) muting every Diva Search segment I see, or (at most) changing the channel when it comes on. And that now, between the Diva Search, the Chris Masters Master Lock Challenge, and Viscera's Five Minutes of Crap, we'll have about 30-40 minutes of each night's RAW dedicated to shit I don't wanna see. And that's just on nights when we don't have the semiannual Big Campy Wedding. Heh.

I remember they were advertising in like Stage magazine and stuff. They were going for 'professionals' if that's the right word. Remember it's easy money the premium rate phone calls for the voting, much like pop idol and big brother.
My cynical predictions: one or two legitimate WWE womens wrestlers will be released next year, to make more space for DIVA finalists, and the WWE Womans title will be decommissioned shortly thereafter, because talentless eye candy in bikinis can't wrestle.
My serious prediction? I could care less. :-)
