One of the things that drives me crazy is about the Wrestling Net crowd is the astounding amount of disinformation, fabrications and speculation that run rampant. Things like the so called "split" of the WWF, the return of NashHall and Hogan, and whos pissed at who backstage. I for one have tried my best to ignore alot of this crap, but its amazing to me how some of these rumors are taken as gospel.
Im not attacking all our favorite columnists for writing about what everyone is talking about. One of the reasons I come to slash is for the columnmists, most are whom arent in love with their own words on the screen, unlike some of the gentlemen over at 411, and the smarks. At Slash, and Scaia's site most of the writers seem to actually seem to love the sport and dont seem to want to bash to WWF just to look smart. And even some the more arrogant writers can say some worthwhile things between all the "I have a column, therefore Im smarter and cooler than you " act.
With that being said, my real beef comes from the originators of all these rumors. Its hard to pin down where all the rumors come from. One of the main culprits seem to be the so-called "respected" wrestling Journalists. Guys like Bob Ryder and Dave Metzer. Im not saying that these guys arent on point with their info sometimes, but sometimes I doubt their credibility. Guys like Peter King at CNNSI are credible in the sports they cover. Coaches, GMs and players give them reliable info that they report. King or Mortensen at ESPN have lunches with the major figures in the NFL. But is Dave Metzer talking to JR backstage at a show, or having dinner with the McMahons? Probably not, I would guess that Vince McMahon probably detests guys like Metzer, if he even knows he exists. Unlike the NFL where a reporter writing a piece about a coach can do some damage with the fans and the league, how much can Metzer do? Not a lot. The Net crowd is only a fraction of the WWFs audience. So when these wrestling journalists start going on about the WWF split happening on such and such date, or the fact that Nash/ Hall/ Hogan is definitely showing up at RAW on MSG or at the Rumble it makes me angry. Because most of the time theyre just speculating, but because they supposedly have sources inside the WWF locker room or boardroom its believed.
We "smart" fans share some blame in this too. 95% of wrestling sites are run by regular college age guys. Most of them have no real connection to the sport other than watching it on TV. The REALLY so called smart ones have watched some tapes from Japan, and Mexico or whatever. But to hear them tell it, they have Chris Benoit or HHH on speed dial. They KNOW the biz. They KNOW that Stephanie is responsible for the WWF decline because she writes the shows in the limo on the way to the Arena. And that Heyamn despite all his knowledge is powerless to stop her. They KNOW that HHH walks around backstage like a god deciding who is pushed and who isnt. And they KNOW that Jericho was scared out of his boots because HHH was returning and bringing Hall, Nash, and HBK with him. And they can tell you that the whole WWF locker room is ready to walk out if Hulk Hogan sets foot in the arena. Its crazy, we as fans dont have a clue what happens what happens backstage or in Titan Towers. We just dont. Stephanie may just be responsible for bring coffee to the creative meetings. HHH may not be able to stand HBK cause Shawn owes him money. The Brooklyn Brawler may be the backstage Tyrant. We just dont know. Tazz may really love his role in the fed. Maybe Stephanie hates being on TV and throws up before every promo. Maybe she begs Heyman to keep her out of the limelight but he just laughs like a maniac and keeps telling her to be more screechy.
Please dont get me wrong. Theres nothing wrong with some speculation. Thats why we come here. To read and share opinions about this sport that we love. Im not saying that everything you read on the net is complete crap. But I just wish that readers would take ALL info on the net, with a grain of salt. And that writers wouldnt write the info like they sit in on Board meetings. OK Im done....
>>Click here to see Kane unmasked in bar drinking beer with Kevin Nash discussing how to combine themselves into Big Daddy Diesel while Trish and Lita give a lapdance to Torrie and Stacy and telling them about their Playboy shoot together where Goldberg showed up with his WWF contract for twenty years which states that RVD and Rock had a fist fight<<
Ah, I love those news items And damn, I ain't no Hot Newz
The real reason HBK has never made that much talked about comeback used to bounce out of synch with the other Nitro Girls.

It's pretty well known that one of Meltzer's sources is Paul Heymann, one of the heads of the WWF writing staff.
Vince McMahon is VERY aware of Dave Meltzer. The two sat a few feet from one another on an infamous episode of Phil Donahue a few years back. It was also taboo for quite some time for WWF wrestlers to even be seen reading the Observer.

You see Meltzer as a 'net reporter'? His newsletter's been around 20 years. He'd know about contract offers and firings BEFORE the wrestlers themselves. Ever see an actual copy of the Wrestling Observer with the business analysis of the companies?
And who says he's trying to do 'damage'? He's a reporter... not so much an opinion columnist.
I just resubscribed, so I dunno what the current relationship is between Meltzer and 'the office', but in years past he's reported on direct conversations he's had with people in wrestling companies, including from McMahon.
Sorry for being an Observer mark, but hell, I can't wait for the issues to start arriving in the mailbox again so I can step away from this silly net stuff even more...

For what it's worth, Test's inverted spinning neckbreaker was Christopher Daniels' 'Last Rites' finisher, then Reno's 'Roll of the Dice'. I doubt we'll see it often, since apparently Test injured his opponent.
