Has there been a superstar (even if it's a A-/B+ level star like Williams) more snake bit over the last few years?

Of course, to soothe his wounds, he has

a) a World Series ring

b) a very attractive wife (She was in Blame It on Rio). Regular listeners to Dan Patrick's radio show last year know he and Dibble brought this up repeatedly to Williams, Schill, Unit and most of the other D Backs.

"Will you SHUT UP? I haven't written a word in a year -nothing I haven't thrown out in years! Do you know what that's like? When it's just you and a blank sheet of paper? When you can't think of a SINGLE thing worth saying, a single character that people could believe in, a single story that hasn't been told a thousand times before!" -- Richard Modoc, "Calliope," Sandman 17, Neil Gaiman.

Ken Griffey, Jr. is kinda snakebit. Two years ago most people thought him the best player in the game. Some thought he might have been the best ever. Then he was traded to the N.L. and it hasn't worked out so far. He had to get used to the new pitchers, which was tough because of a hamstring injury his first year. And last year he had all kinds of nicks and bruises. Now people talk about Bonds breaking Aarons record instead of Junior. People say he isn't a team leader, and that he has a bad attitude. It's been a pretty big drop for him over the last two years.

I've always liked Griffey. He plays hard and seems to love the game. He isn't the team leader on the Reds, but he was never a team leader with the Mariners either. I don't think he is cut out for that. If anyone should be the leader of the Reds it's Larkin but not as many people complain about him. Griffey has had some unfortunate injuries the last few years, but i think he is over them now. I think he will bounce back and have a HUGE 2002. The Reds will still suck though.

Updating Ohio State's basketball record could get to be a chore. Just remember, Michigan sucks.

I think part of Griffey's problem is that he plays for the Reds - which have a notorious habit recently of the other team in the NL Central. I couldn't even come close to approximating his numbers from last year, although I don't think they were horrible outside of his average (if I just shot myself in the foot, let me know).

As for most snakebit player, I might contend that with Rondell White... however, I'm not sure if I can support that.

For his career Griffey averages .296 ba, 110 runs, 42 hr, 121 rbi, and 16 sb. Last year he was .286, 57, 22, 65, and 2. He only played 111 games but in 94 with Seattle he also played 111 and ended up .323, 94, 40, 90, 11. It may have been the injury, but he was way off last year. Anyway i just think it is the fan perception of him that has been hurt the most. He is snakebit in that sense. He got hurt and alot of people turned on him, fans and teammates.

Having a torn hamstring last year certainly affected everything about is game, but towards the end of the season he was doing much better. Receiving death threats against you and your family will also mess with your head a little bit and make you want to not be out in the open, save for playing, a whole lot.

EDIT

RoWhite is extremely snake bitten, he can be extremely good, but he is rarely in the lineup enough to make an impact. I believe he's averaged about 100-110 games a year the last four years, and I know that he's only topped 150 games in a season once.

It is too bad... I'm afraid his career may be over. The last reports here before he re-injured the shoulder were that he was pitching about 80% off the mound, no breaking stuff. This is a big setback... so much potential.
