...and beats him to the punch by two days (thefutoncritic.com)

On Sunday, Oct. 17, NBC will broadcast an episode of Law & Order: CI in which viewers will vote on one of two alternate endings. One will be broadcast to the Eastern time zone, the other will be broadcast to the other three U.S. time zones. The winning ending will be broadcast at the end of the following week's episode.

EDIT: It should help to point out that both endings will be available to watch on nbc.com after the episode.

That show sucks...probably the only detective show where they know everything about everything. The drama of the show...stretching it into an hour, since the know it alls should have the case solved in say, 15 minutes.

Ah yes, but they don't have the case PROSECUTED in 15 minutes.

Actually, the worst offender of that when it comes to cop shows was Columbo. I swear, he'd on the average have a case solved in 4 minutes and spend the other 56 minutes (less commercials) fucking with the heads of everyone involved in the case.

That wasn't a bad thing, just saying is all.

That would seem to be pretty tough to do, since the Eastern and Central time zones are viewing the same feed. If the endings can be THAT different, how well written is the show?

This isn't a new gimmick, though. Way back in the 80s (Hey, remember the 80s?), NBC ran a call-in where viewers could choose one of two endings to the episode of "The A Team" they were watching - something like "Is (character X) (character Y)'s father?" and in the last thirty seconds they said "well, it turns out he WAS your father" or something like that. It was pretty lame - I'd say "on the other hand, it got me to watch," but I was always watching anyway so that didn't really matter. :)

Episode 93: Family Reunion! I've never seen the other ending, which leads me to speculate that the voting was rigged.

The question, if anybody cares, was : "Is AJ Bancroft Faceman's father?" AJ being the political turncoat that Hannibal and the gang had to protect that episode. He was his father, but died before he could tell Face ("Body Slam" star Dirk Benedict).

Yes, I should have spent more time away from the A-Team.

Ahem. I believe that's Battlestar Galactica star Dirk Benedict. There shall be no maligning of Starbuck! Screw "Body Slam"!

(No, I'm not serious. But I did like "Galactica.")

Don't forget the call-to-vote campaign that killed Robin (Jason Todd).

Urban legend has it that the Kill/Don't Kill Robin campaign in the end was decided by one lunatic who rigged his phone to call the number to vote Kill Robin a infinite number of times to the tune of a probable four-figure phone bill. But it's never actually been proven.

Yes. Fuck. No to Ringer. Just no. It's obvious why CBS looked at this and said, "What? Get the fuck out of here. Eat up, CW, this is more your speed." Ringer is All My Children shot like Gossip Girl with soundtrack to match. It's awful.
