-This ep focused on Debra's transition to new Lieutenant and Dexter going after his childhood idol, the serial killer known as the Tooth Fairy. A bit unoriginal since that was the name of the killer in Red Dragon, but oh well.

-Debra deals with Laguerta and Quinn being douches and trying to undermine her authoritie, but counters by hiring a big shot detective from Chicago.

-Dexter hangs out with an old coot he believes to be the Tooth Fairy, a killer who removes a tooth from each of his victims.

-Masuka tries to impress his hot new intern with evidence from the ICE TRUCK KILLAH! And she digs it! Perhaps a bit too much...

-Alpha and Omega have a prisoner who they are attempting to make "pure" before it is time.

-Dexter gets invited to a church picnic by reformed killer Sam.

Lots of things set up here. I'm thinking Masuka's new lady is going to be more than she appears.

My first thought was that the intern is Ice Truck Killer's daughter, but she's too old for it. Also, if she was really into the ITK case, shouldn't she be bugging Debra about it in a very awkward way? In any case, I like that there's a bit more to her character than just being more eye candy for the show and something for Masuka to ogle.

Did that new detective transfer from Chicago circa 1948? Had LaGuerta not been standing there, you'd got to believe Deb would've fired him on the spot.

Still not really impressed by the Hanks/Olmos storyline but that closing image of the dead guy on horseback was pretty creepy.

The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

I think the point was more about Deb's casual dress than any sexism. Somebody pointed out she looked too casual earlier.

Was casual dress the issue? I mean, Batista was the other choice for LT and he's never seen without a polo or Hawaiian shirt and his hat. The new cop's comment about Deb getting him a cup of coffee was just straight-up sexist.

Maybe...that's just what I took out of it since they made the point of having that line in there.

I got the idea it was a combination of her being young, a woman and being casually dressed.
If only he had looked up that clip that was all over the web a week before.

I am totally freaked by Hanks/Olmos. Especially thanks to that Horseman like thing at the end. W.T.F.
Freaked out, but totally digging it.
This will be bizarre.

One has to assume the tooth fairy name was a shout-out to Red dragon. It did provide for a nice comparison.
Here's a guy who's bitter and alone, and all he has are his trophies. And then there's Dexter..is this his destiny?

Curious: Is there some kind of fishbowl containing TV plots that showrunners pull their stories from? In the same week as Sleepy Hollow does a smashing haunted house episode, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
