The ropes are now green and the new title belts are bluer.
No Option C invocation yet this year. Dutt should refuse to do it, since his 15 year quest has been to have a legendary X-title reign. It would be more important to him to have a long reign rather than giving up the X-title for a world title shot.
1. Knockouts Championship: Gail Kim v. Sienna (c) (w/ KM) Taryn Terrell returned and cost Kim the match. Kim is retiring, so presumably Terrell wanted one last battle with her archnemesis. Terrell's 2015 Big Bad run ended prematurely due to injury, so it will be great to get closure with her. Winner: Sienna retains
Alberto el Patron was stripped of the world titles presumably due to misconduct out of the arena. That was pretty weak, considering that in his first run as champion Bruce had him relinquish the title and return it to Lashley. Once again, Bruce Prichard had him relinquish the title and return it to Lashley. Stripping one guy of the world title multiple times, rather than have him lose it in a short match makes everyone involved look bad. Shades of Bryan Danielson.
When Bruce said that he could return the title back to its former holder, I was hoping that he was going to swerve and return the GFW title to Magnus. Is Magnus still in GFW? He is not listed on the Roster page, so I suppose he has been disappeared.
Jim Cornette returned as the new director of authority. He fired Bruce, and revealed that the Court of Owls does not want to make Lashley the new champion. Instead there will be a royal rumble gauntlet match next week to crown the new champion. LAX was pissed, because Low Ki was supposed to get a title shot tonight. Instead, he will be the #20 entrant. Later in the night it was revealed that ECIII, Moose, Chris Adonis, and Eli Drake will also be in the match. Drake will be entering first.
We still do not know why Bruce gave ECIII the Grand Championship recently, but the implication is that Bruce was trying to rebel against Karen, and thought ECIII could work as an ally. We also still do not know where Bruce was during Slammiversary. Perhaps he was meeting with the guy who had the vignette at the end of tonight's show.
2. Super X Cup 2017 Finals: Dezmond Xavier of GFW defeated Taiji Ishimori of Noah.
Xavier said he wanted to challenge for the X-title next.
3. X-Division Championship: Ladder Match: Trevor Lee v. Sonjay Dutt (c)
The belt hanging above the ring was the new blue belt, not the green x belt which had been made in honor of Shane "Hurricane" Helms. Which presumably means that Trevor Lee never had to give up the belt he stole, and really should continue to run around pretending to be champion.
Caleb Konley tried to help fellow Carolina boy Lee win, but his interference was countered by a returning Petey Williams.
Winner: Sonjay Dutt retains, and gets a new belt, but does not get back the belt that Lee had stolen from him, which had been the main point of this match taking place.
4. “Ohio vs. Everything” Jake and Dave Crist debuted and defeated jobbers Zachery Wentz and Jason Cade. Meh.
5. Winner gets a title shot of their choosing: Bobby Lashley somehow lost to Matt Sydel. Typical X-division guy upsets heavyweight at Destination X type of match.
Afterwards, Bobby's MMA friends are pissed and attack a referee. A subplot leading up to the match has been that Bobby's MMA coach thinks that Bobby needs to choose either wrestling or MMA, because it is too hard to do both. Jeff Jarrett wants him to do both, as do we all.
Finally, a Johnny Nitro vignette played. He survived the limo explosion, and is coming to GFW. We have been waiting for this since 2011, and he looks like he will be a good fit for a top tier role. He will be renamed Johnny Impact.
Randy Savage does indeed hold some active trademarks. IANAL, so I have no idea if he would actually has a case. I think the idea is that his distinctive look is part of his "brand name", and use by someone else is trademark infringement.
