|  #1 Posted on 3.9.02 1743.13 | There's an article in this month's Guitar Player (October 2002) featuring an interview with Derek Trucks. The writer calls him a "slide prodigy". Well, I saw Derek Trucks live last year when he opened for Eric Johson and Alien Love Child, and let me tell you something:
He sucks.
He's an okay blues player. His first few songs were simple but fun, and had the crowd going pretty well. Then he played some tribute-to-Buddha song that went on for over 30 minutes. I got up, waited in line for the john, came back, and sure enough he was still at it. It was this stupid four note riff repeated over and over and over and over. He absolutely killed the crowd. More accurately, the crowd was ready to kill him. The rest of his set was absolutely boring. It turned out that he knew a few licks that he repeated over and over and over and over. (Notice a theme?)
To summarize: Derek Trucks sucks.
Just had to get that out there.
