O.K. Can we hang this guy out to dry like we did Trent Lott?.

I didn't support Trent's comments but I'll be equally offended if this doesn't get the same kind of coverage.

I can't even figure out his logic.

This ALREADY is the first I have heard of it. If ever there was evidence of the "liberal press," this would be it.

You might see this mentioned in passing over the next couple of days, but I guarantee that it will not even begin to approach the level of heat that Lott got. And Lott's commend was MUCH more ambiguous.

Well, please take into account a couple things:

1) Trent Lott was a celebrity. He was a well known politician. It may just be me, but I've never heard of Moran before, and as a wild guess I'd say neither has most of the country. Hell, most people can't even name the congressmen from their own state, much less any other state.

2) The Republicans don't want to waste any effort or political cred on toasting this small fry. The Dems went after Lott because Lott was a big target. Who cares about wasting money attacking Moran except the Republican planning to run against him?

If they studied their paper money for clues as to what their country was all about, they found, among a lot of other baroque trash, a picture of a truncated pyramid with a radiant eye on top of it, like this:

Not even the President of the United States knew what that was all about. It was as though the country were saying to its citizens, "In nonsense is strength."

The Village Voice posted a link to this, and they're as liberal as you get.

It's tough for a guy who's got a Jewish daughter to be anti-Semitic. Sometimes we can be somewhat oversensitive and paranoid about this stuff - although, quite honestly, we kind of have a right to be - but at the very least this guy really should have known better than to say something so stupid that can construed the wrong way pretty easily. It's not like he can plead ignorance, there's no shortage of Jews in suburban D.C., and I'm sure he's quite familiar with this stuff.

The Village Voice likely has a large Jewish readership, so I'm not going to take them as representative of the liberal press at large.

I have to say that you do have a point here. Moran is no where near as big of a fish, so of course the Republican Party is not going to waste the time and money to try and fry the guy.

However, I do think that the mainstream media would pick up on this, at least a little bit. I mean, hell, whoever heard of Gary Condit before Chandra Levy disappeared? Anti-semitism is, of course, no where near as bad as murder, but the point remains.

If this WERE a Republican, even an unknown one, this would be plastered all over the news and siad unknown WOULD be an instant celebrity. Racism/cism of any kind plays well against Republicans.

I get your point, and while the GOP might not make a huge stink, the media should be consistant enough to hold this guy up with his comments as they did with Lott. If a guy walks like an idiot, talks like an idiot, and sounds like an idiot, chances are, he is a fucking schmuck no matter what party he is in, or however much of a household name he is.

You think the New York Times doesn't have a large Jewish readership?

Or the L.A. Times, or the Washington Post, or all the other examples of the "Liberal Press" you hold up for that matter?

I think it has something to do with this (see link) line of thought. He just expressed it in a way that's offensive to some.

On the bright side, he is working his way into prime position for the VP nod on the Cynthia McFadden ticket.

You mean McKinney?

And that Buchanan piece was distasteful. NRO's David Frum rebuts here.

It seems (at least to me) that the Jews who's ideas happen to be in power at any given moment become "the Jewish lobby" or the "the Jewish community," while the Jews who's ideas happen to not be in power at any given momement become regular citizens who happen to be Jewish.

Almost all major mainstream Jewish organizations - from the Reform movements political arm to the ADL to the Jewish Public Affairs Council - have not taken a stance on the war in Iraq. And of those smaller organizations that have taken a stance, many, if not most, have taken an anti-war stance.

There's a couple neocon Jews in the state department who think war is great idea. There's also plenty of non-Jewish neocons in the administration who think war is great idea. It's like if there's two Jews who the president listens to it's a conspiracy.

EDIT: Here is a very good article about this.

It's a bit scary how this has brought out the Anti-Semites again. Now people are calling into radio shows and actually agreeing. Although you don't hear about much Anti-Semitism these days, it's definitely still out there.

It's a moot point anyway because he just announced on Air America that he's going to honor the rest of his radio contract and not run until at least 2008.
