And the same group of my ex co-workers that were let go 2 years ago from Bell are back on the unemployment line yet again, after being promised the world when they jumped ship.

Back when I was in the call center business we had a center in Canada that was around $.60/min when we had to charge around 20-30 cents more per minute. I bet it is much closer now.
CSRs are unfortunately seen as a commodity.

| #4 Posted on 25.4.08 0201.40 | Yup, the dollar parity is pretty much the the main reason. Two years ago they were getting North American support for 80 cents to the dollar. Now....not exactly. They can just pull some of it back to the US for the same price, and you guys could probably use the extra jobs right now.
The writing's been on the wall for awhile. I'm glad I can fit in another two months of paychecks though. Of course, the problem is now FINDING work after this.

Umong other incentives, they weren't even paying any property tax. They pretty much had the land they built their call centre on GIVEN to them.
I don't mean any disrespect, but I would much prefer to deal with locals (read Canadians or Americans) when it comes to technical support.
The laptop I own is a Dell, but the service I've received through their toll free tech support is seriously lacking; I doubt I'll be making a repeat purchase when this system bites the bullet.

I'd rather a friendly Southern accent than an East Indian accent.
No offence intended.
For those taking tally, Greyhound's national call centre is in Texas.

Hell, I'm a liberal Dem and I think goverments granting concessions for things like this is just plain stupid.
And I have dealt with Indian call centers on some matters and while tha accent was a tad difficult, the help rendered was okay.

| #9 Posted on 28.4.08 2250.35 | Well, the current plan is to that the consumer support is heading off-sore (and I can't blame them; the savings are huge). It *was* a great two years, and I made sure to get lots of training in (even got my A+).
Ironically, HP is apparently moving their support back to North America (this seems to happen in cycles), and Ottawa has been mentioend a sa possibility. If they do it'd be a smart move, as there's obviously a lot of people around here who would likely take a job there.
